Lawler attacks "ruthlessly" for 30 seconds, then coasts for most of 3 rounds. So much so that I thought he hurt his hand in the opening flurry. The people I was watching with (who don't watch much MMA) supposed he was spent, but I knew better. It had to be an injury.
Hendricks weathers the storm and comes back looking like Nick Diaz (sans expletives) , Stockton slapping and leg kicking his way to a 2-1 striking advantage through 3. Rounds 4-5 were clearly staged as Hendricks looked like Ric Flair giving himself up to Terry Funk for a piledriver. Funk's .. I mean Lawler's broken hand kept him from picking Hendricks up, dumping him on his head and likely ending his career.
It was a great fight and oth guys left it all in the cage. Well except Hendricks who admittedly didn't fight the last 2 rounds. And, of course, Lawler who didn't fight the middle rounds and who attacked more in one minute, split between the first and last 30 seconds of the fight, than he did in the other 24 minutes combined.
The fight, and both guys' strategy, can be summed up in one word: What the hell?
Hope Robbie's hand heals up quick. Hendricks v Lawler III...? I can wait!
Give Rory the rematch.
Worst of all, It left me reading Sherdog for the first time in 7 years. Why, UG?
Forget a rematch, It'll be more of the same. Give Rory and Hector their chances.
Rory has nothing for Lawler. His defensive wrestling is too good. Honestly, orgs aside, Askren should be next in line.
i think robs strategy was to ko him early in r 1
didnt work, he gassed a bit
then it became: conserve energy til the end of the round and finish him there
didnt work exactly that way but won him 3 rounda and a belt
Nope let Rory at him. This time he wins
