On April 5th, 2008 Mainstream Mixed Martial Arts 9, "New Era" will
feature a double main event with 2 Championship bouts in one night at
the Vets Coliseum, downtown Cedar Rapids. Joe Pearson will be
defending his Lightweight Championship against the undefeated Erik
Koch and Local fan favorite Tom Grubb will get his shot at the
Middleweight Championship when he faces Elite Performance's Brian
Monaghan, who has a reputation for feeding undefeated fighters their
first loss. Also Derrick Mehmen and Rashad Brooks will fight for #1
contendership status in the Light Heavyweight Division along with an
undercard of the area's top MMA talent. Tickets are available at

Has Derrick Mehmen improved dramatically in the last year? "

He was a walk on at Iowa and spent quite a bit of time with the Iowa squad so I would have to say yes. A nagging injury prevented him from competing unfortunately but he has been back and training like an animal.

That had to be forever ago. Might have been before he was training. He fought someone at Mainstream a few shows about and just completely destroyed them. I commentated that fight.
