Manafort’s new plea deal with the FBI

“According to the court filing, the change of conspiracy against the United States includes money laundering, tax fraud, failing to disclose his foreign bank accounts, and acting as an unregistered lobbyist for pro-Russian politicians in Ukraine. The second count, for conspiracy to obstruct justice, relates to attempts to tamper with witnesses related to his foreign lobbying.”

Oh look. Another nothing burger that will lead to nothing.

Wait where’s the Russian collusion?

David@accu - Wait where's the Russian collusion?

Seriously?

Trump’s Campaign manager was a Russian agent. Still think it’s a witch hunt?

Man....where have you people been?  Do you read anything other than headlines?

Before Paul Manafort's brief stint as Donald Trump's campaign chairman, he was a political consultant with more than a decade of deep ties to Ukraine and Russian interests.

It was scrutiny over that work that forced him to step away from the campaign weeks after the 2016 Republican National Convention. And it was his relationships with foreign leaders and governments, not necessarily his ties to Trump, that led special counsel Robert Mueller to indict him on a range of charges — from money laundering to conspiracy against the U.S. to tax crimes, among others — as part of the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Where is a term used broadly to cover the scope of an investigation, that isnt actually a crime itself?

Not sure how to answer that without making fun of both of you for asking.

Not mentioned thus far was that during the plea hearing this morning, it was confirmed Manafort will be cooperating with Mueller’s investigation.

How long until we have a Trump Twitter meltdown over this?

Drain the swamp

Strangely absent.

Have you noticed how this has slowly morphed into different things democrats want to try to get Trump on?

I’m sorry, I must have missed the part where the Democrats are running this investigation?

Seriously, you guys will spin anything to blame Dems. But please do share in what way the Democrats have any influence whatsoever over the Russia probe or the Manafort trial?

Wait, before you start let me get my OG Official Tinfoil hat on, this should be fun.

Check the dates on the charges, well before 2016. He was Trump's campaign manager for approximately 49 days.

He was 5he manager for only 49 days but worked on the Team Trump campaign much longer than 49 days.

From NPR:

But one person familiar with the case said the agreement does not include cooperation on matters involving the Trump campaign.

The plea agreement is public and says Manafort “Must cooperate fully with the Government in “any and all matters as to what the Government deems the cooperation relevant”.”

Carrie Johnson corrected that NPR report. Still unclear what exactly the cooperation will entail, but it will remain that way for a while.

Nothing strange about it, the indictments of Americans for conspiring with Russians will hit later.

Step 1 - indict Americans for stuff

Step 2 - indict Russians for election related crimes

Step 3 - prosecute the Americans in step 1 and get them to flip regarding Americans conspiring with Russians from step 2

Step 4 - indict Americans for conspiring with Russians

Long winded way of saying “any day now”

Also a way of analyzing what appears to be the legal strategy at play here. Makes a whole lot of sense…

Given that the witness tampering (conspiring to obstruct justice by trying to influence witnesses) charges would have part of this trial, and they came from this year, it’s pretty retarded to claim they were “well before 2016”.

Although, you could have referred specifically to that one charge, which wasn’t clear…

But given that part of the defense that Trump supports claim is that “its all old stuff”, I assumed, possibly incorrectly, you were referring to everything that was going to be in this trial.

Wheeler’s “checkmate”. I’m always more cautious than she is, but this makes a whole lot of sense too...

He has mated Manafort with pardon-proof charges. Nabbed $40+ million (more than pays for the investigation now). & has flipped the biggest fish in the tank.
