Manager: Crucifixion of Palhares gone too far

Palhares is one of my favorite fighters so I hope the UFC lets him back in.

That being said it is really shocking to watch all of his Brazilian MMA heel hooks and his ADCC and UFC heel hooks and the Brazilian MMA choke he held too long on top of the heel hooks. The video evidence makes it very apparent he needs to modify his behavior or the sport will not accept him. When you watch all the heel hooks in a row it looks really really bad.

Vote me down if you want, but I don't think Palhares deserves all this. He should be reprimanded and forced to change his ways. He's already been suspended and released from his contract. People are painting this guy as a evil person and by all accounts that is not the truth.

By all accounts? His own coach (Bustamante) has stated that they got tired of him seemingly intentionally injuring his training partners. He's had multiple warnings, how are you supposed to all of the sudden force him to change his ways?
Sounds to me like Bustamante and Palhares have a personal issue between them. So I'm gonna take comments from his former coach with a grain of salt. That said, maybe 'by all accounts' was a bad choice of words. Phone Post 3.0

First off thanks for your gifs as of late.

2nd, Someone said at first that Bustamonte trained Palhares to hold on to subs because of his own personal fiasco with Matt Lindland and the phantom tap. I thought that had merit as I recall the controversy in that fight, but after hearing Busta's words on this matter, I totally believe that Bustamonch does not advocate this type of holding onto subs long.

Wes_Mantooth - I am glad Palhares was cut. he should have been cut after the Drwal fight. Fuck him.

Palhares says he's gonna take your mother out for a nice steak dinner and never call her again.

His FORMER coach is now saying that. Yet his current people are saying that is false. That PH and others at he time CHOSE to leave because they felt they were not evolving.

He trains with the NOGs now and by all accounts he is a valued member of the team.

Take Bustas comments with a grain of salt. There is clearly some bad blood over PH leaving. Phone Post

I admit:

Palhares' contrition moves me. I genuinely want him to be forgiven.

That being said: can any of us honestly say it didn't occur to us that this would happen in this fight? If so, why did we feel this way?

If we can answer these questions honestly, I think most of us will come to accept that Palhares is dangerous and prone to this sort of thing.

Let him have a few fights in the minors. If he can win without making someone type with a straw, bring him back.

All five of the posted fights are pro MMA bouts. No one on this board is a bigger fan of Palhares skill and technique. That is why I have watched those fights. I posted them because it helps to show what the UFC is concerned about. I hope they let him fight in the UFC again but I also hope he learns to release heel hooks on time.

Screw him.

I don't see his actions in these videos as being particularly malicious.

"and he will beat everyone put in front of him – maybe in a nicer way!"

Or, maybe he'll keep holding on after the ref tries to stop him! Who knows? Right?

"But this guy is being crucified in the court of public opinion" ...... sort of what happens when you are a public figure and you act like an asshole.....

"Rousimar does not do this on purpose. He does it unconsciously. But he will have learned his lesson"

If he doesn't do it on purpose, how am I supposed to believe he can change?

This statement is ridiculous.

The only one of those videos that has him acting out of line is the Moura one and that is cause the guy was illegally kicking him in the face while he was being heelhooked. The guy keeps cranking till the ref stops it, that is his history. I see it as being no different than fighters repeatedly hitting knocked out opponents till the ref steps in. It is a courtesy to stop before the ref gets there.

Werd. That, and he dropped Palhares on his head a couple of times to get out of an armbar.

Don't start none, won't be none.

Dana did the right thing. This was not the first time palhares showed unsportsmanlike behavior. Don't bring him back Dana!!!! Phone Post 3.0

Murilo sounds bitter, a former coach now talking smack when the man is down AFTER he left your team voluntarily.

Ben Fowlkes epic failed with his article. One of the worst I have read. Not journalism but more of a personal attack on a guy he doesnt know. Pretty shitty.

Alan Belcher vs Toquinho rematch would be fun though. I like that idea. MMA or as Belcher called him out at the Metamoris Pro for a no gi grappling match.

Rousimar does not do this on purpose. He does it subconsciously. But he will have learned his lesson, and he will fight with his head on, and he will beat everyone put in front of him – maybe in a nicer way!

Why exactly will he have learned his lesson?

He has not learned it yet.  He did not learn it in multiple MMA and BJJ competitions where he has been cited and/or sanctioned for the same behavior.  He did not learn it in the gym where he continuously hurts his training partners.  He did not learn it the last time the UFC suspended him for 90-days.

Why in the world should this incident be any different?

Sanction/fine/suspend, it's just a matter of time till he does it again.

I said the same thing about Bustamante's comments. People are already misconstruing the fact that Toquiho left BTT into Toquinho was kicked out of BTT for being rough. That just did not happen. People are too emotional about the whole thing rather than looking at the facts. Of course, the facts can ruin a good story.....

If Palhares hasn't learned his lesson in several years, how will he learn it now?
