That cut – the one changed the course of the fight and left Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva drenched in blood at this past weekend's UFC 146 event – wasn't as bad as it looked.
"It wasn't really a big cut," Silva's manager, Alex Davis, told MMAjunkie.com Radio . "It was right between the eyes. It's a very fleshy part. It bleeds a lot. He's a big guy, and his head is very well irrigated, so it was a blood bath.
"But it only (needed) three stitches. It wasn't that bad, but it looked bad on TV."
BzGrappla - wouldnt have made a difference. cut or no cut.. the guy was gnna keep getting GNPd
You dont know that. Its one thing to be taken down, but Big Foot was not in any real trouble. The cut effectively blinded him. That is when the fight went down hill. Would Cain likely still have won? Sure, but it was the cut that sealed the deal not any sort of overwhelming gnp to that point.
BzGrappla - actually it was some overwhelming GNP that stopped it. Rewatch the fight.. bigfoot wasnt defending himself.
overwhelming in the sense that Bigfoot couldnt see any of the punches being thrown at him because of all the blood pooling in his eyes. Cain did his part but the fight should have been stopped before the TKO, it was obvious he couldnt see.

How do you know that? The whole fight was that cut. If Cain wasn't the one being pushed so much for a title shot by the UFC that fight would have and should have been stopped. But winning on a dr stoppage for cut wouldn't get him a title shot.

That much sudden blood loss will effect you in some way. I sliced the tip of my ring finger 2/3 of the way through the finger nail. Lost a lot of blood fast and felt like I was gonna pass out. I'm sure Bigfoot might have felt somthin like that. <img src="/images/phone/apple.png" alt="Phone Post" border="0" style="vertical-align:middle;"/>
You were probably just fainting like a big girl. You can lose a ton of blood, suddenly, with no real effect. You've probably lost more blood, more quickly, if you've ever had a bad nose bleed. It doesn't effect you as much because you don't see it as much. I'm not knocking you either, it's common for guys to get a little weak-kneed even with a small wound. I cut my hand at the knuckle once, and it didn't bleed at all. I was a kid and just thought it was cool, then I spread it open a little and realized I could see my tendon moving, and I went "oooh..." and my knees got shaky for a second. Silva was blinded, but he also might have been effected by the blood, just because it's probably unnerving to be swimming in a pool of your own blood.
Women don't have the same reaction. You won't see WMMA fighters getting flustered because of blood (or snapped and mangled arms). Ask a doctor and they'll tell you this stuff. 90% of the people who faint from getting an injection, are male. 90% who faint from the sight of a wound or blood, are male.
