Marcelo Garcia DVD's

Has anyone seen these? if so can you give some feedback about them. Mahalo

i have all of them and i think they are ok at best. I think there are a lot of bullshit moves that they call techniques. Like grab your opponents arm. and that will be technique 1. It also wasn't that much new stuff for me as advertised. My favorite tape was the passing guard tape and some submissions were cool. Some i saw in 95. Lots of the moves would work against a guy thats not that good. Even though garcia is obviously really good and can do the positions on world class oponents. just my two cents

i saw some of it, I really liked it.

I have 'em and have used the moves succussfully so far! Especially the armdrags, back control and x-guard!

Anyone else care to do a review of the DVD's? Much apreciated.

Anyone else seen the Garcia DVD's?

I strongly disagree with Macavelli.

When I first got them, I watched them every day for a month.

FAR and away the best series I've ever seen.

The "Like grab your opponents arm. and that will be technique 1." comment isn't untrue, but is misleading.

There are instances where for the benefit of flow, they show a detail as a separate technique. However, with up to 19 techniques on a tape, you're not missing out.

My favourite tapes are the x-guard and armdrag, as they both show a series of techniques, rather than just techniques with a specific objective (ie taking the back) or from a specific position (ie passing the guard). By no means are the other tapes bad, in fact I watch them often, but the armdrag and x-guard tapes really stand out.

The thing I like most about them (which is what confuses me about Macavelli's comments) is that I found them so easy to use immediately. And when I had a problem with defenses my opponent offered, I went back to the tapes and lo and behold, the counters were there.

For what it's worth, I recommend it higher than any other tape I've seen.

Boogie B

bonton has armdragged the correct, taken its back, and choked it out in under a minute.

now if only I could do to PEOPLE what I can do to the correct...

bonton, are these with the gi or without?

I just bought it, after watching the clip with Marcelo taking Vitor Shaolins back in like a minute and watching some of the clips from www.groundfighter.com.

Yes, they are good. It's a no gi submission grappling set.

I'm waiting for a bj penn set.

Marcelo (with help from the translator) does such a great job of breaking down the details of the various techniques that I found myself able to immediately use many moves from the instructional against resisting opponents immediately, without even drilling the moves beforehand.

I bought this series because I wanted to 1) Learn how Marcelo uses the arm drag so effectively to take the back and sink the mata leao on top opponents, and 2) Use the X-Guard. If that's all I got for $150, I would have been happy. However, I got much more than that -- great details on a butterfly guard sweep sequence, nice guard passes, extremely useful tips for finishing from the back mount, and a lot more.

Marcello just breaks down the moves step by step (or technique 1 to technique 2). Just ask Shaolin if his moves don't work!

The best thing about watching this series is that at the end of each series, he shows fights in which he uses those moves. If you watch the armdrag tapes, then watch the fight w/ shaolin, you pick up so much more.... in fact, watching it last night, I'm pretty sure marcello wasn't going for the armdrag at first, but using it as a setup to get x-guard (if you watch it closely, you'll see that as he armdrags and starts dropping to the ground, his left hand lets go of shaolin's wrist and turns palm up), but when shaolin is taken off balance, he continues with the armdrag.

I was working these techs last night and the way the x-guard and armdrag setups work together is simply beautiful.

dont forget about mma.tv discount, I got the set for only 100 bucks brand spanking new.

interesting

I just ordered it. I told myself last year that the Kukuk set would be my last purchase for a couple of years. Couldn't resist this one though, dammit!!!

Like some others, I also found that some of the moves worked immediately, without drilling them. Some parts of the tapes are a little repetative, but there is also some great stuff there.

I found all tapes useful, but my favourite was the on taking the back.
