I was rewatching some of his matches and i think the guy's solid top game, great pressure, good judo, and solid guard could make him a pretty good mma-er. Anyone know if he has any plans to fight? How is he with striking? Bjjtapes might have the answer to this one.
Other bjjers that I think should make the leap:
Fabio Leopaldo, Marcelo Garcia, Saulo (I know he got KOed but he has to have more than that in him), Pe de Pano, Roger, and Vella.
I cant wait till Jungle Fight comes to dvd cause I still want to see what Paixao and Jacare can do.
He would get killed in MMA. I think he won a shooto fight against somebody, but against a good quality opponent he would get killed. His Jiu-Jitsu is not to finish the fight, its to win on points. I've watched him in at least 10-15 matches and have never seen him even ATTEMPT a submission.
Roger has said he's looking to fight MMA within a couple of years but I agree with littlec, Feitosa is a great teacher and I've been told he is MUCH better sparring but when he competes he gets very conservative and holds on for the points win.
Feitosa fought to a draw in Shooto against Mishima a few years ago. This was his only fight. Mishima has 15 wins with just 3 losses and is a very good fighter. He's beaten Aurelio, Robert Emerson, Kato, Imanari, Fabio Mello and Ryan Bow. He's top 10 at his weight and gave Ralph a good fight. So I wouldn't say Feitosa would get killed in MMA.
HOWEVER, he will not fight MMA again, the word was that his parents were totally against him fighting MMA and he promised to respect that.
Marcio is concentrating on his teaching. He should be going to the US in 2005.
LittleC,, Marcio fights to win. When you are fighting guys like Leo Santos, Leo Veira, Shoalin and other top guys you don't just open up going for submissions, just for the sake of winning by submission. Marcio understands Jiu Jitsu very good and knows what it takes to win under the rules that are given. His game is so solid.
I dont see how hed get killed unless it was from a KO by a better boxer. Why would not going for subs at the Mundials mean that he'd be bad at MMA? If any thing, it just makes me think that he has a stifling top game that is hard to sub. I agree with the Miz.
