what fight did you watch?
the only thing Ivan did besides back pedal and hold on to Marquardt in the guard was shoot in a few times
They're both great fighters, but i don't understand the Marquardt hate. i mean, he was bringing the fight to Salaverry the whole time and it seemed like Ivan wanted no part of him
ivan was trying to engage on the feet... marquardt refused
marquardt didnt press the action at all but he did counter well (a little too well)
Nate was bringing the fight to Ivan, if you watch the fight it's obvious. Nate was almost always pursueing Salaverry, while Ivan was back pedaling.
"ivan was trying to engage on the feet... marquardt refused"
Nope. Marquardt was landing some effective leg kicks in the 1st. More than Ivan did all night. I'm a fan of Salavary, but he had no answer for Marquardt's unexciting but effective fight.
Both fighters had a bad case of fighting not to lose. That was boring. Nate should have thrown more and Ivan should've tried anything other than a figure 4 from the guard. Not one sub attempt and no serious flurries. Too bad that fight had potential.
" Nate was almost always pursueing Salaverry, while Ivan was back pedaling. "
thats just loony... theres no way you are being objective about this fight
are you trolling or associated with nate?
You must've watched a different fight, jacktripper. Nate was the one taking the center of the cage, while Ivan backpedalled.
strictly countering... he never tried to finish the fight
hell, he never even took a chance in the fight
Nate was coming forward. Ryan G is correct.
"he never tried to finish the fight"
His guillotine attempts were the only attempts to finish the fight for either guy.
"hell, he never even took a chance in the fight"
Neither did Ivan, dude.
It was a shitty fight, but Nate was the one coming forward, he landed hard kicks in round 1 and 3 nice knees in round 3 (the only effective strikes in the fight, for either fighter), and got a couple takedowns. Ivan really didn't do anything at all.
I'm still an Ivan fan. Everyone is allowed a shitty performance every now and then. But he did NOTHING in that fight and deserved to lose. You can tell by his reaction after the decision that he knew it, too.
EVERYDAMNTHING Nathan did or tried to do was a direct result of something Ivan did or tried to do.
Go back and watch the fight and you'll see EXACTLY what I'm talking about.
Nathan acted like he didn't want to even be in there.
I agree with Smokin'Guns. Marquardt was basically trying to either counterstrike or throwin' shadow boxing-like jabs the whole time. Salaverry could've been a bit more aggressive though, but in his defense they both respected each other WAY too much.
I hope Nate gets KOed in his next 2 fights. If there's one thing I really don't want to see, it's a freaking decision champ.
Nate was moving forward more, yes. But Salaverry took more initiative to try and make something happen.
It was a boring fight, but I don't see how you can blame one fighter or the other. You kinda have to blame both of them, or just chalk it up as "one of those things."
Some combinations of good fighters, don't result in good fights. That's just the way it is sometimes.
I really didnt mind watching that fight wasnt the best fight thats forsure but it was decent i found
2 GREAT FIGHTERS WITH MUCHO SKILLS. THE BLAME IS ON MATCHING THESE GUYS TOGETHER IN TH EMAIN EVENT ON FREE TV...NOW THATS THE PROB.
PETE
"I hope Nate gets KOed in his next 2 fights. If there's one thing I really don't want to see, it's a freaking decision champ. "
You're retarded.15 of Nate's 20 wins were by TKO or Submission.
It's the stawl and brawl that annoys me in terms of slowing fights down more than lay and pray.
Ivan did nothing but back peddle. Nate tried to come at him but everytime Ivan ran. You cant expect a guy to put himself in serious danger just to get to Ivan. Also on the ground Ivan continued to put Nate in a triangle guard. A completely defensive or more accuratly a stale mate position. Bottom man cant reverse from it and subs are very limited, also the top man is locked in with very little movement. I put 85-90 percent of the blame on Salivary.
