So today at Jiu-Jitsu during open mat, there was a hippie looking guy that I'd never seen before (this isn't particularly surprising, as there are quite a few people who I haven't met who train at my academy). We got to talking and he told me he was a professional fighter who'd just come off a win against Vernon White (a rather big name in MMA, he's fought Liddel and Sakuraba amongst other big stars). I was intrigued by this and kept talking to him: Turns out he trains with Team Quest in Gresham, Oregon and is looking soon to be signed by either the UFC or Pride. Wow. This totally went against my world view of hippies, and my beloved ability to judge people at first sight. Mark my words, I will never insult a hippie again (as best I can manage).
After talking for a bit we rolled around. As a precursor he walks around at ~205, and I'm only ~175 and he was No-Gi while I had my Gi on. Regardless I got my clock cleaned with him only toying with me. It was awesome. I can't remember having my back taken so many times in recent history. As it turns out he's a bit of a rising star in the sport, especially with his win over White.

Matt Horwich is one of the most open minded mma fighters on the scene. His grappling is awesome and it keeps getting better at a rapid pace. I think he's gonna be top 5 in the world at his weight in the near future :)

That flicking karate shin-to-head kick on the most recent IFL was fun to watch.
Before his fight with Mike Pyle, Pyle described Horwich's gameplan as
wearing his opponents down until they get tired and then choking them.
It was excatly what happened to Pyle.
