I really think Matt was trying to beat Royce with a sub, using solid BJJ.
He had great side control, looking to separate the hands for ann Americana. One of Royce's arms was tied up in Matts legs. Very surprising to see Royce unable to recover guard and forced to bring his legs into the air, but I guess Hughes' control was that good.
Then when he is in the half guard, he uses the sit though pass, which is very common in high level BJJ tournaments these days. Of course the straight arm figure 4 was solid too, but really hard to finish on skilled opponents. We saw him use this same game againts Joe Riggs, so you know its in his gameplan.
Finally his back control was excellent, posting his left arm for base hand for base and methodically punishing for the finish.
Disrespectful because he didnt give his fallen competitor a lil hug like Lister did...thats respect...not as much respect as Griffin's spoon'n, but respect nonetheless....
Max Power why are you hating Royce on all these threads ? Sure he lost, but no need to be so negative about it. Remind us on the UG to rag on you HARD next time you get owned in a fight. We owe Royce alot including respect. Royce will be remembered LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG after your MMA career is over.
"Not trying to be argumentative, but why do you say that? I thought Hughes had a good amount of respect for Royce."
Pre Fight, and I dont care if Zuffa told him to say that shit or not, I have been a Hughes fan for about 3 years until the pre fight shit. It seems that it is taught at mfs Tim isnt any better.
disrespectful or just honest, Royce had his day, it was a long time ago. I can't tell you how many "casual fans" I know thought Royce would take Matt, but they just don't know. If I was him I would take the fight too for that kind of cash. The game has change though, and Matt was honest about it, you can't just know one thing and be successful at the big shows now, it is MMA, not BJJ. That was not disrepectful.

I was pretty sure Matt would win but wanted Royce to win. Matt should have been classy about it. It was really dissapointing to me.
