Matt Hughes is scheduled to fight with Karo Parisyan in the UFC. It should be a good fight and I assume Hughes will be the favorite. Matt Hughes has certainly caused a lot of fans to turn against him recently because of his behavior on the TUF reality show. It seems every week more people are getting sick of Hughes and last week was the worst so far. Hughes has always been a crowd favorite, as well as one of my favorite fighters. However, I see Matt a lot differently now, have personally lost a lot of respect for him and will root for him to lose. The UG seems to have turned against him as well.
Do you think the UFC crowd will root for Matt Hughes as usual, or will he now hear the Boo Birds and hecklers come out vocally against him?
I think Matt will be treated much like Phil Baroni is at the UFC. Some will love him, but they will be drowned out by the Hughes Haters. I will stand and boo Matt Hughes and root for Karo Parisyan. I respect Hughes as a fighter and what he has accomplished, but I no longer like him.
For those of us who don't watch that television program, can you fill us in a little more? Is he really that bad?, that just surprises me but all I know about Matt Hughes is what I see on the pay-per-views...
HeHateMe...Matt comes off as a total uncaring prick and not a good coach at all, IMO. I'm surprised someone hasn't punched him in the nose. If it wasn't Matt Hughes, he probably would have gotten punched.
THE HATE IS NOT ABOUT HUGHES HARD ASS COACHING STYLE.
IT'S ABOUT HIS DISRESPECT TOWARD A FIGHTER WHO FOUGHT HIS HEART OUT. HUGHES SHOWED NO CLASS AFTER VON FLUE'S WIN AND EVEN LESS WHEN HE CUT HIM (NOT BECAUSE HE CUT HIM BUT THE WAY HE DID IT).
GOT IT!?
AGAIN: TOUGH ASS COACHING IS OKAY. DISRESPECT TOWARD FIGHTERS WHO WIN FOR HIS TEAM ISN'T.
"Hughes comes from a D-1 wrestling background. My coach was just as evil, perhaps even worse."
Not evil. Thats just the way it is. I am surprized that not all of the TUF fighters are responding to this the way wrestlers do.
You do WTF your coach tells you. Especially if was Matt Hughes.
I have no MMA fights, but I know when I left the wrestling mat without giving it everything I had, then I was embarassed & I embarassed my teammates as well.
japetto...If TUF put Matt up to acting like a prick, it was a mistake, IMO.
Take a look at Hughes vs. Penn and especially the pre-fight comments and his mannerisms waiting for the fight to start. Hughes is so over confident and cocky, it makes his one-sided loss to Penn very enjoyable.
Matt is a great fighter, but he has lost before and will lose again. I always rooted for him, but will now root for whoever he fights, except maybe Trigg. I said I would even root for Trigg on another thread, but I think I lost my mind momentarily.

Funny how somepeople thought that Hughes's "smacktalk lines" were scripted...
Monte Cox was on the mmaweeklyradio (9-30-05) and talked about that he lived with Matt for a year. He said that "Matt has no compassion!"
He went also said that everyone was suprised when they saw Matt do and say these things on tv, but thats only because they dont know Hughes. All they know about Hughes is like when he fights in the cage, and then signs some autographs!
But for Cox and the other Team MFS guys watching the show there response is " thats just Matt being Matt."
Eric is correct. Tough coaching style aside, Matt comes off as an egocentric jerk. LMAO at "I never lost a fight I didn't want to lose." Hey, way to give no credit to guys who BEAT YOU.
Knowing what a dick Hughes really is, also makes the kiss that BJ Penn gave him after the fight hilarious. I can also see why BJ was laughing at Hughes after the fight and saying locking up with Hughes was nothing compared to who he has been training with (Couture, Lindland etc).
