                    <blockquote>

With current No. 1 contender Quinton "Rampage" Jackson electing to face Rashad Evans rather than take an immediate shot at regaining the UFC's light-heavyweight title, Brazilian slugger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua has reportedly agreed to be new champ Lyoto Machida's first title challenger.

While speculation of the potential bout has been widely circulating since the announcement of Jackson and Evans as coaches on "TUF 10," Portuguese-language website SuperLutas reports Rua has signed on for the bout.

Attempts by MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) to confirm the reports with Machida's camp were unsuccessful.

UFC President Dana White himself began the speculation when he posted the message "Look who's in the office today!!!" on his Twitter account Tuesday afternoon. The message included a photo of White with Rua.

Although he may not deserve a title shot, it will be a very interesting fight.

LilBrockonmychest - Can't believe beating Chuck and Coleman gets you a title shot but I guess this is good news in the sense that at least the belt won't be held up 8-9 months again

who else would you like him to beat?

Exactly. Machida beat Thiago Silva to get a title shot, I'd say Chuck is a bit more accomplished than Thiago.

Not to mention, Shogun beating Chuck for a title shot is better than Rampage beating Jardine for a title shot, wouldn't you say?

I'm most happy that I won't have to wait 8-9 months to see the belt defended, had Lyoto coached TUF 10.

This is the man that has just beaten Mark "The Antidote" Coleman!!!!

Shogun went in, survived the relentless and unstoppable wrasslin of Coleman and managed to even squeeze a jammy victory from the jaws of defeat. His victory over Chuck is irrelevant. Beating "the antidote" was the absolute highlight of Shogun's career!

Coleman is the obvious antidote to Machida, anyone who could beat him deserves a title shot!!!!!

no, i wouldn't say.

rampage didn't just beat jardine, he brutally KTFO wanderlei. don't forget about that one too.

plus, rampage was already the LHW UFC champ not too long ago. not only was he the champ, but he actually defended his belt. something that no other LHW champ has been able to do since him.

rampage deserves this title shot way more than shogun.

Except your boy Rampage has and is still ducking Machida. Shogun has also beat the dogshit out of Rampage before too.

Rampage just needs to get all his ducking in a row before his next title shot.

should be a good fight and we want have to wait a lifetime to see Rampage and Evans.

yeah,  I am almost looking at this as a 4  man   'R'  tourney with Ryoto, Rashad, Rampage & Rua

UFC 105: Respect, Revenge, Retaliation, Revelation!

Machida fighting sooner and probably the 2nd most deserving opponent; it's all good.

Still surprised Dana seemingly allowed Rampage to dictate his opponent.

Also would Rampage have chosen a guy coming off a loss in a non-Title affair if he KNEW he could beat the Champ(Lyoto)?

THIS-- the first thing I thought when I heard Rampage was a coach was "oh great, he won't fight Machida until January now"

Kind of disappointed by this. I wanted to see Shogun string together a couple more dominating wins before losing to Machida.
