and go for lots of knee bars.

Beware the third hook

Try to avoid the idiots going to hard in training that will end up hurting you.

And take time to drill your moves over and over don't just free roll all the time take time to actually practice your moves then trade position with your partner and let them practice.

If they are not willing to do that and only want to free roll then try to find someone better to roll with.

  1. dont wear a cup

    2. take some viagra before rolling

Just make sure you shower before class.

Learn how to listen and take notes after class to improve retention of the lesson.

Think about stuff you learned when you aren't in class and you will learn quicker.

Finally, just fucking spaz out on anyone you roll with.  Don't slap hands with them before you roll.  Just tell them "Come at me bro!"

oh yeah and take things slowly to start.  don't burn yourself out or injure yourself by trying to do everything in a day.

Shrimping is HUGE. learn how to break and pass the guard, u should be gold Phone Post

1/ wear a cup, cut your nails, take a shower
2/ prepare to get tapped, a lot, and try not to give a shit, its supposed to happen
3/ if it hurts tap,
4/ pay attention
5/ pay attention
6/ dont be scared to try techniques, better to attempt a sub n fuck it up, than just let yourself get handled

Tap early. No point risking injury.

Call everyone 'brou'.

Don't let anybody check your oil unless you give them permission. Or unless it is a girl checking your oil. If that is the case ask her out for dinner after you finish rolling with her. But tell her to wash her hands first.

damn this is great stuff. thanks alot guys.

I am somewhat of a hygiene freak so the only issue I have is other dirty mfers.

do any of you guys roll with previous injuries like a dislocated elbow or anything? also I had my nose fixed last year should I worry about that much or should it be ok not sparring?

Eye contact is crucial. Establish eye contact when you shake hands before rolling, and try to maintain thoughout your roll. This is something most newb's don't do, but it will get you in on the good side of most bjj vets.

When rolling with brown and black belts, try to help your fellow students, who may be rolling near you, by shouting encouragement to them. This will show that you want to be part of their team camraderie.
