Gray Maynard said he was surprised to get the text telling him he’d face Roger Huerta next at UFC Fight Night 19 on Sept. 16 in Oklahoma City, Okla.

“I was like, ‘that’s a weird name, but I’ll take it,’” said Maynard, who has notched five straight wins in the UFC. “I was looking for somebody like maybe Diego (Sanchez) or Clay (Guida)… It’s cool though. I’m happy. He’s got a big name.”

Maynard, 30, said he’s requested fights with Sanchez and former lightweight champion Sean Sherk on a number of occasions, but understands its all in the timing as he heads into his 7th bout of nine-fight deal he signed with the promotion after appearing on “The Ultimate Fighter 5.”

Thats funny, Forrest and Jardine said the same thing and ended up getting their shit pushed in.

Forrest and Jardine said "I’m happy. He’s got a big name.” ?

SoulreapeR - Who has Gray beaten?

Jim Miller
Rich Clementi
Frankie Edgar

Pretty decent wins considering he has only been in the UFC 2 years, and he is still undefeated

 "Who has Gray beaten?"

The guy with the best record in the UFC's LW division, the otherwise undefeated Frank Edgar.

More like who has huerta beaten?

Guida and that's about it, and that after getting his shit torn for 2 rounds until getting lucky. And even if you forget about those 2 rounds of man rape it's still his only legit name victory. As opposed to clementi and EDGAR (who just tooled sherk)

questioning the wrong credentials.

Considering how he looked during training on Saturday when I saw him, he seems more than ready. The dude is really fast with takedowns when you witness it in person and watching him and Tyson spar together solidified that notion even further. I don't know if Huerta may be ready for that style of grind-out-break-your-spirit wrestling that he brings to the table.

Can't wait to see this bout!!!

Maynard will be even more surprised when Huerta kickphuc*s the dump out of Gray

Huerta's way too hot and handsome to lose to some fugly hillbilly

Maynard takes a decision here I think, good fight.

I have a feeling Gray will send Huerta out of the UFC with a whimper. 3 Round decision as always.
While Huerta has had some highly entertaining fights including one of my all time favourites against Clay Guida, Maynard is like Kryptonite to entertaining fighters and fights.

Agreed.  This will be Carano-Kedzie all over again.

BEEP!

Gray "the sleeping pill" Maynard... The guy is just "blaah"

Maynard should have very little trouble in this fight. He is a better boxer, much better wrestler and significantly stronger. Having said that, I do not believe he will finish Huerta. But I have to agree that Huerta has the edge on being "hot and handsome". Unfortunately those qualities tend to be less important in MMA than boxing and wrestling.

James Irvin should fight Gray Maynard to keep his nickname, as Gray is much more deserving of it.

At least for me, as I always go to sleep watching this guy.

this guy really think he's "REALLY GOOD" hope huerta beats his ass and in my eyes he's not undefeated he lost in tuf that should count as a lost

Maynard all the way. Gotta root for a fellow Clevelander!

Seriously though, I see him being the bigger/stronger athlete with better wrestling, and that's bad news for Huerta.

Just not a matchup that favors Huerta, which is probably why the UFC put this together in the first place.

Hawkeye02 - "SURPRISED" Is it really that hard to spell. Jeebus, second news thread in a month UG News has misspelled. I am pretty sure I deserve a blue name for pointing out their errors.

or to be ridiculed due to being stupid enough use spelling as a slam on a fucking forum

Huerta is always game; should be a good fight
