<p>The main event of UFC 189 features an interim featherweight title bout between Ireland's Conor McGregor and the United States' Chad Mendes.</p>

I don't post here much, but I felt like making a prediction this time because I am so hyped for this fight.
Both men are phenomenal athletes in their respective discipline/styles and either one has a chance to win regardless of my take.
That said, I have Mendes by decision. Simply gonna put it that Conor has a punchers chance (albeit a great one at that considering his pedigree) but Mendes is just extremely strong, ridiculously fast (I believe he has the speed advantage). It is REALLY hard to punch and kick when your forced back and grinded DC style against the cage. I believe that to be the Faber/Mendes perspective on how to counter McGregor and win. Why stand with the guy? Do like Chael did to Anderson and force McGregor to reach into his bag of tricks early and often. That said, the Irishman is one talented young man with undeniable spirit and technique. Just because we don't know how good his ground is doesn't mean its not awesome or clutch.
My ONLY worry (more for fairweather fans than me because I don't care) is that its "boring" because McGregor's guard is great, but that Mendes doesn't have much to beat it, so he resorts to lazy GnP/half guard type position control to eak out a decision.
McGregor, prove me wrong man, I'd love to see it. Like one of the above posters said, may the best man win. This is gunna be good folks!
just noticed that both guys are 17-2 and both have been fighting since 2008. obv mendes has fought better competition and his only two losses are to aldo.
Super Saiyan God Vegeta - Let's go McGregor!! Everyone should be rooting for him whether you like him or not. Conor vs Aldo does a lot more for the UFC than Aldo Mendes 3 does.

Why can't you root for him? He puts on exciting fights and brings in many casual fans. That's what the UFC needs lol

cause he acts like a dick... lol. but I hope he wins so I dont have to see mendes get his ass beat by aldo again. Having said that I kinda expect boring lay and pray from mendes with the occasional burst of stand up from conor. chad wins it 3 rounds to 2. but I hope conor proves me wrong. good luck tonight conor!
I don't know if a more enigmatic big fight. McGregor could be completely exposed, he could come off like Ali over Liston, anywhere in between. I have no idea what is going to happen.
Didn't you hear, the fight's off. Conor broke a fingernail. It's too dangerous to let him fight, an eye poke could blind his opponent due to the jagged fingernail. Safety of the fighters is the first priority. The NSAC won't let him fight, and he's in too much pain anyway. A broken fingernail is a serious thing. Though one doctor says it's not fully broken, just bent. It sucks though.
