Tonight at a press event for UFC 194, Conor McGregor laid out his plan for the featherweight division and what's next, including maybe one last fight before moving to lightweight:

“I feel I want Jose to show up, I’m going to retire Jose and end his career, and then I’m done what I’ve said I would do,” McGregor said at a media luncheon in Los Angeles. “I said I would kill the featherweight division – there’s nobody left.”
McGregor (18-2 MMA, 6-0 UFC), who with Aldo (25-1 MMA, 7-0 UFC) headlines UFC 194 on Dec. 12 at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena, didn’t shy away from one additional fight if successful against the undisputed champ. A meeting with ex-lightweight champ Frankie Edgar, who respectfully challenged him after his interim win over Chad Mendes, is possible under certain conditions.
Edgar (19-4-1 MMA, 13-4-1 UFC) next meets Mendes (19-4-1 MMA, 13-4-1 UFC) on Dec. 22 at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale, and McGregor said his performance there could convince him to stick around a little longer at featherweight.
“If Frankie was to put on a phenomenal performance and stop Chad, then I could probably say alright, let’s answer the Frankie question, let’s shut him down real quick,” McGregor said. “But in my mind, I’m thinking unify and destroy.”
I appreciate that he's willing to test himself and move up in weight, but I don't think he should do that when there are deserving contenders at 145. If he actually clears out 145 then I'm all for it, but he's beaten one fighter in the top 5 for fucks sake
He should fight Mendes again when he loses to Aldo. This site has him as champ and he gets hyped like he is one, but let's be honest, he still has the wrestling question over him. He knows Frankie is a grinder, yet says Edgar needs to finish Mendes to face him. A win over a fully trained Mendes is good enough in my opinion. Conor is great and I hope he really believes his talk, but in order to give him the opportunity to go up in weight, he should prove himself against the best at his weight. I think he's afraid of Frankie and has to demean him in order to justify trying to avoid his kryptonite.
I totally support mcgregor moving up as soon as he finishes Aldo. It's in his best interest... He wants multiple belts and he should grab them while in his prime. Besides a guy targeting only champs.... Isn't that badass?
And the comments about him needing permission to move up? He doesn't need permission to tell egg he is unable to make 145 anymore.

Noo. Thats a guy targeting paydays only. Hes got to at least fight frankie. Imo
How about he actually cleans out the weight class like Aldo has done before he moves up. The question if he could beat Chad with a full training camp is there cause chad was destroying him before he got tired. Frankie cause of his movement and speed and wrestling and BJJ are a tough fight for Conor. There would be a lot of hype behind a fight with lamas cause of the videos he made. oh and last but not least. Aldo has been champion for 10 years and cleaned the weight class out. That dude would 100% deserve a rematch!
But Frankly, I don't think he beats Aldo. He is too slow and Aldo has way more ways to win.
You can talk about Conors angles and body kicks to stop Aldo speed. But he wont have those when he has been leg kicked too death.
McGregor is top 10, probably top 5 at 145 but beyond that there are still huge question marks hanging over him. He still needs to beat Aldo, Frankie or Mendes (after a full camp) IMO. Frankie I think is the worst possible matchup for him, I think Frankie finishes him in the 4th.
I'm a big fan of mcgregor and I thought he was a force to be reckoned with but the UFC is probably protecting him from Edgar. Guys like dos anjos and nurmogomedov would maul him. I think his brashness and self confidence is a huge part of what makes him the fighter he is but he has no shot against dos anjos. Dos anjos would give him a worse beating on the floor than he did to pettis
