Melvin Guillard: 'I'm glad MVA is gone'

I love how he started with "no disrespect" and proceeded to disrespect him. Phone Post

Melvin will never be champ.

ABE FROMAN - Melvin has the tools, his attitude is the problem. I hope Sperry can whip him into shape.

Stupid comments like these about MVA kinda show Melvin hasnt really matured much over the years.

Not recognizing that hes been a mental midget and instead blaming the wrestling coach never having been a UFC champ proves this.

Otherwise his comments would be something along the lines of:

"I am the one holding myself back. Not MVA, not Greg Jackson.

Me not being a champion by now falls on my shoulders because I have just been too immature to take in and appreciate everything and everyone I have in my life to enhance my career.

But I recognize that now and I am not taking anyone lightly and every single thing every single coach teaches me will be drilled until i have that fucking belt around my waist. And then it will be drilled some more to keep it there."

The above would show Melvin truly maturing!

Melvin just made me care less about him. Douchey on melvins part. Phone Post

I agree. People would just write him off if he didn't shows flashes of being championship material. It's more like he's wasting his talent rather than not have the ability to get there.

Hopefully opinions change if he does well against Cerrone.

shame, I was kind of starting to like Melvin.

He should go back to Jackson's and re-learn some humility.

ABE FROMAN - Melvin has the tools, always has, that's what's so frustrating about watching him fight. Part brillance, part knuckleheadedness.

His attitude is the problem.

I hope Sperry can whip him into shape.

Wrong thats just buying into the Melvin hype. hes never had the tools to be a champ. He is mentally weak, lacks submission defence until proven more then one time, and his wrestling is far from being great or at the level of elite LWs.

Fact is hes black, ripped and looks like he'll beat everyone so Rogan hypes him up as someone with great skill. The Camoes fight goes to show what level hes really at.

I don't buy into anybody's hype, it's my opinion that he's shown flashes of brillance here and there. I believe that if he humbled himself and listened to his coaches he could develop everything he needs to go to the next level. Some people never have the ability, he does, he's just wasting it.

Also, 'Fact is hes black, ripped and looks like he'll beat everyone' seems more like an opinion piece from you. Unneccessary.

Stfu and train Melv Phone Post

MVA was an IVC champion, which back in those days probably had as good if not a better talent pool than the UFC...especially the event MVA won.
Some of this is memory, but I believe MVA ended up joining the military after his loss to Wand, pretty much in his prime.

Fabes -  Greg Jackson, Mario Sperry, Ricardo Liborio, Javier Mendez, Bob Cook, Dave Camarillo and Cesar Gracie were great UFC Champions.

Oh wait...

War Cerrone! Phone Post

If you start a sentence with "no disrespect" or "with all due respect" you can say whatever you like about the person and they have NO right to be offended.

Christ! Haven't you seen Talladega Nights?

Shake 'n Bake motherfucker!!!

legit lol

MarcusRenatoBlackBelt - Actually at first I agreed with Melvin Guilard. I followed the sport for a very long time and was a wrestler. I had NO CLUE that MVA was an NCAA Champ and had NO CLUE he beat Cael Sanderson in wrestling. That is incredible. Cael Sanderson was the greatest NCAA Wrestler Of All Time.

Anyway, when i read what Melvin was saying it was Word-For-Word my opinion on Van Arsdale. I remember him being brought in to lose to Couture. He is very vocal so I can see how there could be a problem.
I think that regardless of whether Melvin has a point it's that his fighting ability hasn't improved under the best coaches or his opinion of the 'worst' coaches. At some point you have to acknowledge that you aren't learning what you should be learning in either case.

he does show a flash of brilliance but its from his atheltic abilities. His speed and so forth. Hes just way to mentally unfit to go further in the fight game. Which you adressed and i agree with.

I had to add that last part because its very similar to what was said about Randleman and the outcomes have almost been identical in a way

Well, hopefully that's not the case because there's nothing sadder than a guy who has potential but ends up retiring without even breathing the air on the mountaintop, but yes, Randleman does fit the mold. At least he was a well-known and still well regarded fighter. Melvin may not end up being that if he doesn't stop to listen.

Sperry is probably his last shot at this.

As much grief as we give Jon Jones, it's refreshing that he gives his coaches some fucking respect.

Melvin has been a disrespectful kid ever since TUF2, when Rashad tried to talk sense into him repeatedly.

Melvin never points the finger at himself. He'll lose a fight and his ego will blow right up again five minutes after the fight ends.

It seemed like Jackson and co. helped him get back to grips with reality for a short while and then he jumped right back off the deep end once again.

Can't say I'll ever root for him again after reading comments like these about a coach who, for better or worse, was always known for doing everything he could to help his guys. Van Arsdale is one of the great guys in the sport. Phone Post

Melvin is a F'N idiot.
