real deeal. he's way too small to fight a chuck or tito but damn if he and anderson silva wouldnt make for a hell of a fight.
he would pwn3d @ 185 lb
Ive seen alot of melvins fights from k-1 to witnessing cyborg vs manhoeff live and freeman, etc. This guy is the most exciting active striker in mma right now. BAR none. silva is more methodical, melvin just hits you regardless and accurately.
American fans need to realize there are other non american fighters fighting elsewhere besides ppv that are on the rise.
Manhoef is a beast. Vicious striking and crazy strength. I'd love to see him in the UFC at 185.
yes when will we clueless americans learn that submission is useless!!!! note sarcasm
Either way great win for Melvin
um, thread already off course. * slaps self *
It was a terrible matchup for Crosley, especially with just 48 hours notice. He's not as one dimensional as some of you think though. Regardless, Melvin is a monster capable of beating just about anyone on a good night.
I didnt really see the fight as bjj vs striker. Except for the fact that crosley dropped and WAS DROPPED to butt scoot, I saw the fight as crosely just got hit too hard to really want to be there. short notice sucks though. Ill give him that. And Crosely looked to have some well rounded skills too firing at melvin but when the fire got hot, he went to butt scoot which was eventually a mistake as manhoeff just jumped on top and hit him even harder. Hard not to like manhoeff. Anyone anyweight anytime. props to gracie for stepping in rather quickly on short notice. that takes balls especially against manhoeff.
"he's way too small to fight a chuck or tito"
I don't know; he demolished former heavyweight Freeman faster than Arlovski did. And he was going to fight Vitor (and I believe would have won if the fight were to stay standing).
he is too small for american 205's. hes 5'8 and doesnt even reach the limit of 93 kilo's. Not saying he couldnt put up a good fight but hes more suited to 185. Freeman isnt that big. He wieghed 93kilos without cutting weight.
Im glad he didnt fight vitor ! cyborg and him had the fight of the year. Vitor would have played it safe I think and went to the ground.
"hes 5'8 and doesnt even reach the limit of 93 kilo's."
Actually, he weighed 98 kg at one point and fought heavies in K-1. The guy even fought Bonjasky to a tough decision.
I don't think there's a problem with him fighting at 205, but it depends on where K-1 and other orgs want him.
I saw his highlight video and he looked pretty tough.
But he hasn't fought the top fighters like Franklin or Hendo yet.
He is definitely exciting to watch and is a dangerous opponent, though....
I just know recently in his cage rage fights he came in under the limit. Bonjansky is a good example of what Im talking about in size and reach. But then again, melvin has improved since then.
I have saw a few of Manhoeff's fight. Seems to be on the rise in Japan. Haven't seen the fight. Don't know what Crosley did. I hadn't been on the internet in a few days or so. Was suprised to see his name in the results. But come on 48 hours, give him a little slack.
he would have a terrible time with a 205 pound wrestler who can gnp or a hendo. with the right matchup at 205 he is fine but not with a tito type fighter.
hes a scary monster
i was sure theyd stop the fight with crosely getting up too slow.
he was really taking his time
crosley took the fight on 2 days notice.
there is NOTHING shameful about losing in this situation.
"Baroni vs Manhoef anyone?"
Would be cool to see, Baroni would come in all hard and fast, but is that a good idea with someone of Melvin's striking calibre? Melvin WOULD trade straight back, and if (which he most likely WILL) survive the first minute, he beats Phil based purely on cardio.
Baroni does hit HARD and can KO ANYONE on a good day, I think he would be underdog though...
I'm a huge fan of both BTW.
can anyone post some of the fights from the tourny?
i dont know who said it but cyborg-manhoef was the fight of the year for sure.
Manhoef is a beast.
I thought he would shy away from fighting Gracie on the ground and he would spend some of the fight off his back in trouble.
Not the case... Manhoef owned that fight.
Impressive.
