Chad Mendes started his professional career a perfect 11-0, including 6 wins in a row under the Zuffa banner to earn a title shot at featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Mendes would fall short of his title dream, losing to Aldo by KO with one second to spare in the first round.

Mendes has since gone on an impressive three fight winning streak, finishing all three opponents and now is right back in the title picture. He of course would like another shot at Aldo:

"I would really like to fight for the title this year," Mendes said after beating Elkins. "Who knows what the hell is going to happen? Right now, I'm going to take a little time off. That was three camps back-to-back-to-back for me. I just want to rest for a couple of weeks, but hopefully this year I'll be fighting for a title."

And if all goes well, Mendes hopes he can take it directly from Aldo.

"I would definitely understand if he's needing to move up, but I want to be the one to take that title from him," Mendes said.

I'd like to see the rematch, but Lamas/Zombie winner is next in line. I don't know if he beats Aldo, but I think he fights with more confidence and gives him hell. Phone Post

He beats Aldo in the rematch. I guarantee it. You guys have no idea how good he has got. He made one mistake in the Aldo fight that cost him. He has gotten so much better since too. Future 145 lb champ!! Phone Post 3.0

I like him but he's going to have to take another fight lets be honest

Mendes reminds me of a bowling ball. Phone Post 3.0

I'm conflicted as a fan...

On one hand, he has 3 wins in a row, and will probably win another fight, giving him 4 wins since his title shot and loss to the champion Jose Aldo.

But on the other hand, his title shot wasn't even close. I have no reason to beleive it would go any differently.

Aldo already has an agreement per Dana that if he beats Pettis he's moving up into an immediate title fight at LW. Phone Post 3.0

I don't know if Mendes would beat Aldo but he sure as hell deserves one more try. He is the second best 145er and I'd love to see him vs Edgar.

I don't think he would've won the first time either but Aldo did grab that fence to prevent the takedown before the beautiful knee win. Mendes would have to fight the "perfect" fight so to say against Aldo and that includes not getting chopped by leg kicks which were hurting him.

H'd have to hope Pettis wins to get it in this year. Not sure he gets another shot at Aldo, cause if Aldo beats Pettis and then the winner of TKZ/Lamas, I expect him to go to LW. Mendes may still get to fight for the title, but I think he's going to have two take at least two more fights, Guida, and then maybe Cub/Siver winner??

I thought Lamas deserved the shot before he was booked before TKZ. If he wins, he is def. the number 1 contender at the weight class. Lest we forget that he beat both Cub Swanson and Erik Koch.

After that, I am all for Mendes getting another shot after 1 more win.

I totally agree buddy. I think he had a good chance the 1st time but Aldo cheated not once but twice by grabbing the fence and then getting that lucky kick off from using that cheat. that was fuckin bullshit to say the least.
Mendez will beat Aldo and deserves the chance right away

I'm not sure if this article is 100% accurate. I thought White said he'd give him a crack at it if he lost because he doesn't want him holding 2 belts at the same time. if he wins he has to defend his belt still. I could be wrong but I thought I read that some where else. if he wins he can leave the belt behind? Someone can set me straight if I'm wrong.

And he hasn't beaten any contenders either. Cody Mcjenzie and Yaitzin Meza don't prove anything..... Phone Post

I don't think it was ever made clear. It doesn't make a lot of sense if he defends his belt and then vacates it to jump up in weight. Phone Post 3.0
That's exactly what Dana said. He was on UFC tonight clarifying that the bout was signed and what the hold up was. End result is if Aldo wins he will vacate the 45 belt to challenge for the LW title. Phone Post 3.0

Totally agree Mendes should be up for most improved fighter. His striking has gotten much better and he has not even used his wrestling lately. Aldo still beats him I think just because of striking Phone Post 3.0
VTFU.

In all likelihood he will have to take another fight. But he will most likely finish any FW with maybe the exception of Edgar and TKZ and maybe guida. But he will beat them all. If you don't think he is the best then you're insane. Phone Post 3.0

Also, the guys he is beating aren't in the top 10. He needs to fight some top 10 fighters before another title shot.

Champion : Jose Aldo

As much as I don't really ever wanna see Guida again, I think Guida/Mendes makes sense.

The FW division is tough to call right now. Lots of guys very tightly packed with no clear #1 contender.

DanGold - Not sure what he has to offer that he didn't have a year ago. If Aldo is gone then sure, he's pretty clearly number two IMO, but until that happens I don't see why.

How is he number two? He hasn't beaten any contenders. He got finished in one round when others have gone the distance. How in the fuck is he number two.

Who do you think is clearly better?

I think basically anyone in the UFC's top ten list is more deserving. Lamas? KZ? Edgar? Swanson? Siver? Probably more that i can't think of at the moment..
Mendes beats all of them. Guaranteed. Phone Post 3.0
