Judo Scott - Ryron didn't come back Andre pushed harder and opened the game even more trying to get something going. Ryron knew he didn't have much time left in the match so it was safe to go for stuff since he could go baack to stall mode if needed for a short time.Galvao was on the defensive late in the fight.
Ryron fought back toward the end of that match with galvao but galvao still managed to sweep him twice or so and Ryron got nothing effective going. If there had been more time then galvao would have been in trouble but he likely would pace himself better.
Anyone care to voice an Opinion on what Ryron's strategy might be?
I believe he said he didn't fight hard to keep guard against galvao because galvao's passing is top notch and he would have expended a lot of energy to maintain guard. Instead he preferred to rely on his defense from bottom side to not get submitted.
I'm not sure he will be as comfortable there with the weight difference.
Thoughts on what his plan may be this time?
Personally, I'd like to see him go out and fight for top position
Seen ryron at the Academy sparring with ellenberger, munoz, big brown. .. but no one that has similar style to josh... I bet you Barnett won't tap him
WAR MACHINE V JUICE MACHINE
this is much different than galvao who although much better on the mat the barnett is a finesse technician so its easy to deal with that skill for skill but some guy driving his knee over your ankle/ shin can get a bit bothersome after 10+ mins
on a total side note check this out
im sitting there talking to one of my real old school jiujitsu fanatic friends im talking 1996 training type of guy "in canada not california so this it wasnt easy to find and only the extreme types were doing bjj"
no blew me away with this point
back in 1996 when Royce beat severn and all the rest it was the little lighter guy using these amazingly nearly invisible techniques to tap everyone.. and that what got us into the art if you were training in the 90's for sure.
flash forward to 2015 there are less and less elite BJJ fighters competing in mma (which is cool its not for everyone and the point is proven jiu-jitsu is a must have skill in a fight) but now even in jiujitsu / grappling there is a whole movement where instead of beating guys the whole script has been flipped to you being the winner simply by Not being submitted lol
Ryron gracie is great on the mats & proven himself vs many of the elite BUT im scared to death he goes out there with the metamoris #1 smile on his face, falls to side control and holds on to Barnett for 20 mins and the "survival" win..
If that happens this maybe the last Metamoris heavily followed as these other events are picking up steam and the recent contract drama + lack of press sure didnt help
please God let Ryron footlock his way to a win..
Ryron as a brown belt held off a prime Monson for an hour.
yup some of the gracei brother best work win lose or draw was in early 2000's competition
vs monson, in that tourney where they cleaned up vs joe daddy, cassion werneck, mayhem miller no slouches.. very tough opponents and they tapped em all but
this new thing of winning by not loosing i'm not with that.. and its dangerous for people thinking that way in any setting other than training in the academy
in a fight come to fight or just stay home
Robobear -Monson was infamous for not being very active in his matches. His matches were typically boring as hell in adcc. Obviously he's an amazing competitor and champion

Josh will playfully place his knee on Ryrons skull...
If Josh gets to side and Ryron shells up he'll probably do some really nasty, catch wrestling shit to make him open up.
I don't think Josh will tap Ryron. Hopefully not, anyway. I see it as a survival game for Ryron if he gets stuck on bottom. It will be pure survival GJJ as he is going to get mauled.
If Ryron SUBMITS Josh, I will start training GJJ.
Weight difference is closer 60-70lbs. That's a pretty huge difference.
It will be interesting to see which game Gracie brings.
For some reason I feel like if josh taps him it'll be something super simple, like head & arm. The real question is will he fight til he sleeps?
I keep picturing Barnett using the chin to the eye submission that worked in the early days of mma.
Sad cyborg got injured, he would have been far more game than Ryron.
Monson is a bjj guy, Josh brought things that Ryron isn't use to. Knew Josh would win, nice toe hold.
So what did you think, Claude? I really enjoyed the match, I thought Ryron showed well, considering the weight disadvantage, and they put on a fan friendly show with both of them taking risks to attack.
It was a great fight from both but there is one thing that I really don´t understand and that wasn´t even mentioned in the Gracie breakdown.
Why Ryron wasn´t using arm posture from the bottom?
His arms where often flaring on the outside and he wasn´t even trying to get a good posture from Half Guard or especially Side Control.
When you consider the weight and power Josh has it´s hard to understand that he doesn´t use some arm posture to create more space from bottom position.
Obviously he did it on purpose (it looked like) but I don´t get the idea behind it. Especially if the guy is as big and strong as Barnett.
Looks like he was playing safe hands. Getting your arms in there against Josh would result in having them ripped apart.
Zero1 -Link to gracie breakdown? Haven't seen it
