MFC 23: Where former UFC fighters go to be shamed

That must have been really hard to write that article with Dana's balls in his mouth.

Please don't book Lister on another card unless it's a pure grappling match, the guy just isn't exciting and fights for a decision every fight.

Looking forward to what you're going to do in 2010

DIZZZLE-Please don't book Lister on another card unless it's a pure grappling match, the guy just isn't exciting and fights for a decision every fight.

Yep, every fight except those 11 finishes out of 15 wins...

This really is a strange article. MFC is a regional promotion. Getting solid UFC castoffs like MacDonald, and especially Leites who probably shouldn't have been cut in the first place, is a coup for them. What else would Cofield have them do?

Granted, booking a Leites/Lister main event and expecting fireworks is a strange decision. But this article really comes off like a weirdly unprofessional personal attack.

EDIT: Misread "Lister" as "Leites." Sorry! Lister actually only has two career decisions, but that sentiment still makes a lot more sense applied to him.

Horrible 'article'. MFC is trying to build a roster. Leites is a nice pick up. Cool they had Spratt back too.

screw yahoo news. their "mma journalists" are a branch of the ufc.

The MFC has great promise, that's why this clown wrote the article.

That was a terrible article. I thought the show was solid.

TTT for MFC...that MF don't know shit, guys have to eat, there's NO SHAME in steppin into battle(ring or cage)  no matter what the outcome and where they fight! These organizations provide opportunity and a platform to perform MMA! Quit Hate'in!

to be fair Yahoo writers acts like retards

 Harsh article

Stinger22 - Was the show really sold out?

There were sooo may empty seats.

Just curious, but which part of "sold out, but during a snow storm/highways closed" don't you understand?

Read the thread dude. It's the second post.

Stinger22 - Was the show really sold out?

And come on guys - the card was terrible.

As mentioned by MFC there was a snow storm that closed the highway and that's why a lot of seats were empty.

Yeah that wasn't the most exciting card but MFC has put on some awesome shows and we get to watch them for free. I will still support and watch the organization as I look forward to watching them grow.

TTT MFC

"Another former UFC fighter, Canadian Jason MacDonald (22-13, 5-6 UFC) has been forced to fight back at home. MacDonald is great guy but he suffered three straight losses in the UFC and now Pavelich is making him fight guys like TUF 3 flunkie Solomon Hutcherson."

Mark and I have a history and we don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, but I don't think this article is a fair assessment of his organization or last night's card. Ask Joe Silva if excellent match-ups on paper always translate to top-drawer fights.

Sack o douche.

dean might have gotten somewhere if he'd used some penetration steps

seemed like he was shooting into a wall and falling back to his arse

its like he had no plan B if the half guard sweeps failed

MFC 23: Where former UFC fighters go to be shamed

Mark Pavelich is trying to establish a big time promotion in western Canada but too often it falls flat like last night's Maximum Fighting Championship 23 at River Cree Casino. Pavelich's plan of using UFC castoffs is exploding in his face.

During a prefight video blog, Pavelich claimed Dean Lister versus Thales Leites would be one the greatest grappling matches in the hstory of mixed martial arts. It was awful and exactly what we saw from Lister when he was with the UFC. Throughout the fight Lister, who once again looked light in the gas tank, shot for sloppy takedowns, pulled guard and butt scooted. He almost got booed out of the MGM back at UFC 92 for the same nonsense against Yushin Okami. Leites simply fell forward landing top control, got in a few punches and avoided submission. It may have been the worst televised main event of 2009 in front of what looked like 500 people.

All I could think of was Pavelich's babbling during that vlog, with 142 views, touting how great the MFC is (4:13 mark):

"No one ever leaves the Maximum Fighting Championship unless they're losing," said Pavelich.

More accurately stated, he should say no established fighter ever goes to the MFC unless they're losing. The rant was clearly directed at Trevor Prangley, who bolted the MFC last month because he needed more fights. Pavelich flipped out on Prangley, who is now slated to fight a real opponent, Robbie Lawler, in the much more prominent Strikeforce on Showtime on Dec. 19.

"Most fighters don't fight here because they're either scared or they're not ready or they flunked out of the Maximum Fighting Championship."

Another former UFC fighter, Canadian Jason MacDonald (22-13, 5-6 UFC) has been forced to fight back at home. MacDonald is great guy but he suffered three straight losses in the UFC and now Pavelich is making him fight guys like TUF 3 flunkie Solomon Hutcherson. The event looked like a complete embarrassment when MacDonald, who controlled the fight on the ground 99-percent of the time, was robbed with a draw. Then came the dreaded score miscalculation and in the middle of the main event it was announced that MacDonald actually won via split decision.

In the fight of the night, Bryan Baker (11-1) beat the snot out of 37-year-old Art Santore. Santore took a beating and gave some of it back. Marvin Eastman, 40, another UFC fighter from way back, was knocked out by Dwayne Lewis at the end of the first round. Meanwhile, Ryan Jimmo (12-1), a first round loser from TUF 8, won a boring decision against Emanuel Newton.
Pavelich is trying to put on a good show and it's not bad content for HDNet but cut the crap with the silly wars with the fighters and if you're going to scoop up UFC castoffs, try booking less boring ground fighters

Interesting take on things. TTT for Trevor Prangley!

It's so bad I would call reverse trolling if I thought Pavelich could pull that type of thing off.

I know at least 2 of the fighters lost at least half their fan base due to the weather conditions. The major highway to edmonton was closed. Roads were treacherous.

My company had our christmas party. Around half of the confirmed guests showed up, and every single one of our employees from out of town were unable to attend.
