MMAjunkie.com today learned from sources close to UFC middleweight Jorge Rivera that he and British slugger Michael Bisping have each verbally agreed to meet at UFC 127.
Although not officially announced by the organization, UFC 127 is expected to take place Feb. 27, likely at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia. The show is expected to air on pay-per-view.
While Rivera initially earned middling success going 5-5 in his first 10 UFC bouts, "El Conquistador" has undergone a career resurgence as of late with three consecutive UFC wins. "I really, really want this next fight," Rivera said. "I not only want the fight, I want to f--- him up."
So why is Bisping getting another non-top 10 fighter? He will probably beat Rivera, bar Rivera's big right hand. This fight proves nothing. Why is he not fighting Marquardt?
No disrespect to Rivera but this is a huge step down for Bisping imo, Bisping deserves a someone in the top 5.
But why make Rivera wait until February? He just finished a training camp and should theoretically be ready for a fight. There are 6 events between now and ufc 127 and they couldn’t fit a fight in for him before then? why not a rematch with Sakara?

What will Mike have accomplished at the end of his career? I guess he is going to slowly sneak up on the title. I hope in the end the money will have been worth just being a marketing tool.
inf0 - Do you really think he deserves a top 5 opponent?
Yes, he does. He has consistantly beat people that hover in the top 20 zone. He needs more fights against elite competition. He has only lost to some of the top fighters in his weight class (he was outpointing wanderlei, but lost the fight due to the near finishes) and deserves good competition. He is a good striker.
Im not a Bisping fan, im just not bias one way or another. I actually think hes kinda boring to watch, but all the UK trolls make everybody undervalue him too much.
I like this fight, Rivera is at the top of his game right now and will probably beat Bisping. It's not a smart fight for Bisping though, if he loses which is very possible, he falls down the latter. Great for Rivera to work his way up to a title fight.
