That's pretty disprespectful that Bisping and Cormier are getting new belts made for each defense, but MM isn't. His is cheapest to make out of the male ones (not entirely kidding), and he's about to be the record holder for defenses.
They can't act shocked when other people don't take 125 seriously since they obviously don't either. Can't blame WME since he's been champ for years.
ShanTheMan - Is it contracted that they get new belts or just something they do?
I imagine they make way less money on his fights so they probably don"t give him any extra unless he asks.
I think just something they do, but it seems messed up that he's going to be the record holder and still has to give his belt back after each fight like they think he's going to steal it.
A) no way do they make smaller belts for smaller classes lol
B) fairly sure they charge money for them...vaguely recall reading years ago GSP saying that and how he didn't do it everytime bc of it; around the time he gave one to Firas
There shouldn't be multiple belts. You get a belt when you win the title and you defend that one. You lose it, they give a new belt the the new champ. This giving belts for defending the title doesn't make much sense at all.

Bisping last defense did 290 buys. Not like he's killing it either.
I hear ya. I don't care one way or another about this belt thing honestly. I hate to admit it since I watch his fights, but I never watch the build up or really care as 125 just seems like an empty division. I know it seems that way since he basically beat everyone already x2, but it still does seem empty now.
Remember when Pride took Mark Coleman's belt for the original GP, years later, and added a bunch of diamonds and other gems, polished it up a bit? That's how you treat a champ.

Agreed. When they had tournaments that made sense. Now that it is a linear concept there needs to be one belt.
I was always under the impression that you got your initial belt, and then one for your first defense, but then no new ones after that. I thought I remembered there being a discussion about that on here a few years back. I think it was GSP who said he had two belts, one was being kept at Jacksons and one at Tristar

So the HW belt is the exact same size as the Strawweight and Flyweight belts? I'll respectfully disagree with no evidence.
I read elsewhere that Cormier wasn't supposed to get extra belts. He was supposed to return one after displaying it for the presser but decided to keep it.
I bet it'll really chap Jon Jones's ass if/when MM gets the title defense record, considering he was well on his way to getting it himself. MM is gonna ruin Jon's special night.

Jon Jones has managed to lose the championship 2 times. He's got a long, long way to go before he accumulates records for longevity.
And i agree with you, he's probably immature enough to where he'd be upset over the record number of title defenses at 125 pounds being owned by Johnson. I think most adults would congratulate MM on a job well done at that weight class, but Jones is probably fuming.
