RFC 3 is Saturday w/ Miguel Torres fighting Will Chope. Going w/ Torres by decision. Your pick?
Gotta go Torres. Will has literally lost to a bum. True story.
I feel bad for the guy. The greatest bw (at one time), one of the p4p fighters (at one time), and incredibly skilled, and looked untouchable while at the top.
All that went away in a blink of an eye. If he would've called it a career after a couple UFC fights, he'd still gone down as one of the GOATs. Even with the losses. This is exactly how fighters ruin their legacy. You continue fighting and losing to nobodies. Makes your past achievements almost disappear.
Good luck to him, though.

I can't remember, who was it that KO'd him and took his chin?

Man he was such a cool dude to hang with makes it even harder to see him go down the way he has over last several years.
Any ideas why he dropped off so quick? Drive? Alcohol? Just crazy to go from waste he was to where he is now.
Hopefully he wins by ko or sub this weekend!
I look at Miguel as a one time p4p candidate and clear best in his division for a good length in time. He kept fighting past his prime and took lots of losses when he could've retired but just has the warrior/fighter spirit so much he keeps on fighting b/c he loves it.
While I feel bad for him getting knocked out when it happens, I love seeing his bushido spirit everytime he steps in the cage. Makes his run at the top that much mroe justified in my opinion.
^he is still pretty young right? I mean wasn't he around 30 when he started slipping?
Where is the event ? Is it a local show ?
Torres should have been given the decision win over Mighty Mouse.
Bam57Bam - ^he is still pretty young right? I mean wasn't he around 30 when he started slipping?
He's gone 3-3 since leaving the UFC, but is 3-1 in 2014.
Regarding "still pretty young", I guess that's subjective. 34 isn't old, but having over 50 mma fights, that's old.
I think Miguel is one of the pioneers of the smaller weight classes and has been fighting for a long time since a young age. Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit are actually still fairly young, but taking into account the battles they've had, they are very experienced milage fighters.
stringtheory - Such a shame to see the decline of Torres. He was a legit p4p king in his heyday in WEC. Would love to see a ufc revival for him.Word! He really was... now look at him, jesus fuck

He did a great interview with MMA Junkie a while back; mentioned being so focused when he was on the rise.
He said he didn't really even have friends, didn't drink, didn't party at all. Then, he became champion... began partying, girls all over the place... and he fell from grace. Depression followed.
I remember the old pictoral Tracy Lee did of him and family at his academy. Seemed everything was together for him -- but I guess it all fell apart.
Really enjoyed his fights back in the day. Began his career 37-1 and since then he's gone 6-7.
209ESE -
ive been saying this for years have j. curran get out of retirement and fight torres in Chicago. It would be the greatest fight to take place in that city.
Yeah, I remember all the talk during the WEC days. Thought for sure the fight would happen once Curran dropped to Miguel's weight. Too bad. But I agree, it could still draw today.
Torres lost his chin in the gym, a product of the old "gym wars" style of training. He used to spar 100% with 4 ounce gloves multiple times a week, including warm ups for for his fights.
I remember Mir talking about Torres trying back when Torres was king in the WEC- saying that he was the best because of the barbarian style of training.
I'm not faulting him - he wanted to go hard, lots of gyms trained like that back then (some still do).
Chope decision

I would love to see it, I just don't think it's going to happen now.

I don't think that Torres plans a UFC return. Recall that he was 2-2 in the UFC, including an impressive performance in his loss against Demetrious Johnson, and ultimately was not cut for performance reasons. That also apparently cost him his TV gig.
Now more than ever he's focused on his gym in NW Indiana and can't be jetting off to Tristar for 2-3 month camps.
Great fighters but as i recall he made a couple rape jokes on twitter and the second one got him cut. I wondered if itwas intentional as he knew he was in some trouble after the first.
He did look unstoppable in his WEC run.
