Firstly, the main event was excellent. Both women were outstanding.
Now, let’s turn to the decision & Mike Bells 10-8 5th round call. We all know that Grasso dominated for the final minute, capitalizing on Valentina’s missed throw.
Ok, rewind a couple rounds and Valentina did what Grasso did in that minute for 4 minutes. But, Bell scared that round 10-9 - Valentina.
I’m glad that DC interviewed Valentina because she spoke the truth.
Valentina seemed to be point fighting. I thought Grasso did more damage. If the fight was scored as a whole, a draw seems like a reasonable decision. 10-8 was pretty fucking stupid for a little bit of back control.
I agree, it could have been a draw but that 1 wayward score cost Valentina the belt, a potential career changer. I wasn’t too happy about Grasso’s interview evading naming Valentina as a good rematch. The whole thing stunk to high hell.
I had shevchenko to close out a parlay and I though Grasso won 2,4,5. But after seeing the scorecards I feel like I got unlucky because no way is round 5 a 10-8. If Shevchenko doesnt go for a throw and just stalls out the round she wouldve won
This is definitely a case of a judge using a round to influence overall the outcome of the fight. He doesn’t think or want Valentina to win the title back in such a close decision in Mexico so he used the one tool he had to make sure that didn’t happen.
We need to move towards AI judging, I just don’t trust judges at all. If MLB can look at the automated strike zones then the UFC can do the same for this. Just introduce it as a feature where it doesn’t impact the fight, the UFC just flashes it on the screen at the end of the round similar to how boxing broadcasts would have a guy scoring the fight for their own purposes. That way they can improve it over time without impacting fights, but also serve as a healthy deterrent for these corrupt judges knowing they can be replaced.
Every sane person knows r5 was not a 10-8. The fight coulda went either way but he should be suspended for that. The entire world is calling him out for this.
