Mike Brown only earned $15,000!?!

Holy crap...what the hell?

The full payout amounts included:

Jose Aldo: $26,000 (includes $13,000 win bonus)
def. Mike Brown: $15,000

Just to put this in perspective, Urijah got paid $48,000 when he wasn't the champ to face Jens. That is borderline criminal.

**cue guys talking about sponsorships and under the table bonuses

Well, this is the WEC, and not being on directtv, hurts them in houses and sports bars across the country

Keep the tax factor in mind as well... Fighters have hinted towards that in some interviews when pay is brought up.

Unfortunately WEC <> (does not equal) the UFC.  One reason to roll the WEC into the UFC somehow.  Keep them as a separate show if needed, but at least allow their top guys to get on PPV's and other UFC shows.

But, as things stand now, they typically fight in smaller venues, smaller TV audience, no PPV's, etc. all mean less pay.  Apples and oranges.

dana has said they pay more than the numbers say

 locker room bonus?

the WEC pays there guys like undercard fighters in the UFC. they really need to start paying them more.

the good thing about the UFC absorbing the WEC is that the fighters would get a ton more money.

Compare the "it" factor of Urijah "The California Kid" Faber vs Mike Brown.

Then the pay makes sense.

Considering that at the time, the first Pulver/Faber fight was WEC's highest drawing fight of all time, it makes sense.

A year ago, no one even knew who Mike Brown was.

Actually, what is usually brought up is that sometimes great fighters like Mike Brown get paid like shit compared to other sports. 3 posts since 07, and ou come up with this? I ain't calling you a shill but...

Somebody is banking that ad revenue, and it ain't the fighters. I wonder what Kamal got paid: fuel expenses and one night in a hotel room?

Its sad but Mike Brown probably doesnt bring the WEC many viewers.  Faber was their only "star" really.  It could have just as easily been one of 3 or 4 other fighters in his place and the ratings probably wouldnt have been much different.  He deserves more because he is super talented but Zuffa isnt going to pay him for that reason alone.  Gotta bring in the viewers.

Total Payout

WEC should really merge with the UFC imo

No wonder Heath Herring got those fucked up haircuts all the time.

275K is what the payroll was for UFC PPV cards 4 years ago, of course we would like to see more go to the fighters though.

Keep in mind this is a show in a tiny venue on a crap network. I highly doubt Strikeforce challengers series has a 275K payroll.

It sucks that he's only making that...but I think we all know why Faber got paid more.

It's the "putting asses in seats factor."

2 years ago Faber was probably popular enough to headline a small UFC card.

 What a joke.

Damn, that's not much money.

What a lot of you fail to comprehend is that no one is MAKING these guys fight!

They CHOOSE to fight for the contracted rate, whether you think it's enough or not, it's enough for them to put their neck on the line each night they step into the cage.

There are other jobs that will probably pay these fighters more, they obivously CHOOSE not to pursue them.
