Mile Training Routine

I've never pursued a running goal before. For this next year I'd like to get a good 1 mile time. I have above average speed, good health in my 20s. If anyone could suggest a reasonable goal (I am thinking 5:30?) and a training routine (I already lift 3 days a week) I'd appreciate it.

1. If you're train for a good single mile time, run 2 miles 3x per week.

2. Takus Intervals will work wonders for building stamina and speed. Do these twice a week (http://www.trainforstrentgh.com)

Every 4 weeks do a best effort run over the mile and write your time down and watch it improve.

I would just go out and run a series of 8-10 400s a couple times a week. really balst them and you'll set a new record in the mile for sure.
