Mir plans to pull guard on Dos Santos

I'm going to laugh when this happens lol.

I actually think Mir may think he is athletic enough to stand with JDS. He will find out that he is not. Honestly Mir is not that good of an athlete. He is a great fighter, but when comparing athletic ability JDS is ahead by a wide margin. You look at guys like Jones and Anderson, they are amazing athletes. Then you look at other guys and realize they very tough, very skilled, but are not on the same level athletically as the top guys.

I think people should stop assuming that JDS has shit Jiu Jitsu, granted Mir is a specialist, but I think Junior would at least be able to defend on the ground. If Mir can get it there. Mir's best hope is a lucky punch IMO. Phone Post

Mir is in for such a kicking in this fight.  Pulling guard the covering up when JDS lands some savage GNP is probably his best way of getting out of this fight with minimal damage

Mir is going to bait jds and fall and try and go for a heel hook Phone Post

14thepages - Don't discount Mir's kicks.

A few unchecked leg kicks and JDS's striking won't be the same. Also, soft legs are easier to take down.

IMO Mir via RNC.

Says the person who hasn't seen Cain JDS

Calhoon - I'm not sure he could pull guard on Jr..

It is tougher to do without looking like a fool than people think. Remember Maia trying to pull on Silva, remember Werdum trying to pull on Reem. They both ended up on their back begging for their opponent to join them.

Another failed guard pull in mma. Maybe it was easy back when Royce Gracie was doing it and surprising people but now it is tough to do. Guys like Eddie would not know this because they never even spar with anyone who is good and willing to knock their head off. Hell I would bet Eddie never even spars with anyone who is striking at him period.

Guard pulling against an opponent who is not willing to accept going to the ground is tougher to do in mma than a regular takedown imo, now that fighters are aware of it. The only way it usually works is if the top person is willing to go to the ground and take the top position.
