Does it upset a lot of instructors if you miss a lot of class time. I don't mean miss instructional class and just show up for open mat, but a student that doesn't show up frequently. I ask because I miss a lot and my instructor doesn't seem to pleased with me.
When life gonna give you lemon, treinar.
He prob just wants to see you reach your goals.
Unless you are one of those "strong willed" students who always competes and never trains for it.....in which case he probably is legitimately upset.
I hear what you guys are saying. I don't think this is an issue I need to bring up with the instructor
I just show up some more for class time. Sometimes bring issues up is good because things need to be address but also sometimes they just cause more drama.
I've missed the past two weeks straight, due to personal problems at home.
I feel guilty about it,but he texts/calls me every few days to see how it's going, and to push me to come back to the academy.
I know he gets frustrated when guys no show, but the guys say he contacts only a handful of them,he doesn't do this for everybody.
I'll be back next Monday.
He's usually more upset at the blue belts that quit or suddenly come sporadically after promotion.
I wouldn't exactly say I've been missing it, Bob.
Instructors are people too, so I'd say of course. They are there literally everyday so when you miss a lot it seems like forever to them. But even then, they have to remind themselves that they MUST be there daily where it is optional for you. From my perspective I wouldn't say "upset" as much as I would "concerned". Especially if it's a small gym. This is an individual art/sport trained in a team environment. Each person walks through the door primarily concerned about their own improvement where the instructor has to keep the individual achievement in mind as well as the team vision. In short, if people don't show, their individual performance can stall, and the instructor sees that, but also he's sees it effect the team because pivotal training partners are absent.
Depends on your goals not the instructors. If you are paying and the instructor has other students to worry about then I doubt he cares more than a passing thought. People have lives, injuries and other things to keep them away. If the reason you are missing is your friends want you to play xbox yeah I probably wouldn't say that. If you are missing because of work or family issues why not explain it? BJJ is a self journey many people take frequent breaks and then return. It's your goals you need worry about. You are paying and have the right to show or not show. Here is something I say some of the college kids I work with but I will relate it to BJJ. If you take the number of classes offered a typical month say 12 and divide that into the amount of tuition you are paying say 120 that's 10 bucks a class. Every time you miss you give that money away. Do that with graduate school tuition you won't ever miss a class again
Snapple -green_machine - I wouldn't exactly say I've been missing it, Bob.
Dang it! What movie is that from again? I can't think of the name right now.

Good post and how I would answer as well.
The instructor cares about your progress more than your money otherwise he wouldn't care if you showed up
I do the same thing often because of my work schedule. Instructors obviously would prefer that you're in class as much as possible, but I wouldn't worry about.
