Mississippi man hogtied by police dies in custody

Crazy story. I had heard someone died at the Widespread Panic concert the other night but I figured it was from heatstroke or something. There is also a video on YouTube of him being put into an ambulance hogtied on the stretcher. These cops are so fucked.

The FRAT: they think he was on LSD and was wigging out so they restrained him by hog tying him. He probably died from a heart attack due to an epic bad trip. RIP fella. Phone Post 3.0

Holy shit, hogtied and strapped down while on acid? That is like the poster child situation for a horrible trip. Unless the hospital was lying when they said he was stable, it would be hard to blame his death on his restraint and transport, but I'm sure there is more to the story yet to come. I'm sure this guy was a dumbass, but that is a shitty outcome for all involved.

Oh, it was a white guy...

How are the cops at fault for restraining him? You know how many people I put in an ambulance that were restrained by Cops? Countless. It is better to restrain some idiot who is tripping on god knows what then letting him run around like a fool and injuring himself. He put things in motion once he ingested the drugs. Accountability starts with yourself.

If I went out hog tied at a panic show I would pray that I was at least a 10 strip under Phone Post 3.0

Just stop it.

People see someone strapped to a gurney and just assume police abuse.

It couldnt possibly be for the welfare of the patient or the ems providers Phone Post 3.0

Yeah these police are sooooo fucked.

Truth is nobody knows.

He was hogtied..... So what, big fn deal. Phone Post 3.0

We live the next town over from where this happened. Guy was tripping his balls off and got restrained. Sad that he died, but the police were doing their job. I for one appreciate how relatively safe Desoto County is when it butts right up to Memphis. That's why we chose to buy a house there.

Handcuffs and shackles would have been enough restraint to keep him from hurting anyone/himself. Phone Post 3.0

That's fucked up.

My (medic) protocols CLEARLY prohibit a patient being gifted, or even laying facedown.

And once in the ambulance, that criminal is the responsibility of the Medic.

We have to either 4 point restrain them to the stretcher, or chemically out them down Phone Post 3.0

Just another day in the USA.

what happened to going to a concert and being satisfied with alcohol and some green nuggage? I miss the 90s Phone Post 3.0

I think the issue is HOW they restrained him, not simply that he was restrained.

Wrong. If he's in custody, he's still the responsibility of the officer. I know you've had plenty of officers ride with you in the ambulance for this exact reason. I do agree that putting him face down should never happen, if that is actually what occurred. But don't pretend like it's uncommon for police to restrain a patient for you. Phone Post 3.0

Dude- how the fuck are you going to tell me "WRONG!" when I'm telling you what I DO and HAVE DONE on my ambulance??

I have strict, specific protocols from the Medical Director. Maybe you misread what I wrote?

I'm not saying a patient doesnt remain RESTRAINED on my ambulance. I said he will never, EVER be hogtied, or lay face down. MOST cops know enough not to question our Medical Porotocols (plus we have good working relationships with them).

We work together as a team and either:

A. Control 1 limb at a time and handcuff the patient to the stretcher, while he's laying on his BACK.

B. Tie all 4 limbs with softs restraints to the stretcher.

C. If he's REALLY out of control, I shoot him with 20mg of Geodon or 10mg of Haldol and put his ass out.

If...IF a cop were to try and refuse this, I would call my Medical Director, and he would call the Police Chief, and then the chief would inform the unknowing officer to do it my way.
(I have never had it go that far. Like I said- the cops trust us, we trust them, and we have a great working relationship.

PLEASE don't argue this with me. You have no basis to tell me that what I do in these cases "isn't happening."

respectfully,
'Fish
