Judo Scott, we can debate any topic all day long. It's all good. But let's try to keep the tone respectful.

Where was I disrespectful?

Was it where I pointed out that 10p promoters constantly pull the you are persecuting us card? Of course thats when they don't try the other red herring... you know the one.. the "you are against evolution" angle.

at any rate lets get back to the topic... oh thats right EB was never on topic. It was the persecution angle, its only a purple belt angle ( that was great for a laugh btw), and the Gracies are doing excuse.

..never mind ..

I always thought of purple belts as pretty damn good. I guess now I know better. I was told by a pretty prominent west coast BB who trains under the rigan that belts are much easier to get over there now. I'm glad I'm on the east coast where getting 'just a purple' still means a lot.

Let's not get started on West Coast vs East Coast thing.

how long have you been promoting online?

SidRon - (Posted on both threads about Eddie Bravo Online)

I don't see what the big deal is. Eddie has created a derivation of jujutsu much like Kano, Maeda, and Helio have made derivations of jujutsu. Kano called his Judo, Helio called his Gracie Jiu-jitsu and Eddie Bravo has called his Tenth Planet Jiu-jitsu. I myself could also make some form of Jujutsu that I feel is appropriate and call it whatever I want.

You could make up some form of ju jitsu and call it something else, but unless you have competitions with unique rules, it's not a system. It's just a way you like to move. In grappling, everyone has a "style." Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera and Mario Sperry have completely different styles even though they got their black belt from the same person. What makes Eddie's style so different he can call it a system? Ambition?

Kano calls his style Judo because unlike earlier forms of jujitsu, it had rules. Helio called his form Gracie Jiu Jitsu because they gave different points for different positions and gave more points for pins that left your hands free to punch. In both those arts the moves you choose to use and how you choose to use them is up to the individual. If there is any "misunderstanding" it's from that fact.

By the way, feel free to respond to my earlier post too 10th P or not :
). It's not the first time I've asked a 10th Planet guy this. They seem to always miss my posts. :/

Mario Sperry got his BB from Carlson Gracie Sr. Nog got his from De La Riva.

Aw cool. Didn't know that, thanks.

I am not a Tenth Planet guy and I have never trained at any of their locations or with any of their people. I am just of the opinion that the Tenth Planet stuff is different enough from standard BJJ to be considered its own derivative of Jujutsu.

Why?

Eddie's system is awesome.

But, I dont think its "different" enough to be anything other than just bjj without the gi.

Dear Eddie Bravo,
The Internet may be used only for posting comments on forums, for uploading pictures on Facebook, and for downloading porn. Please do not use the Internet for anything else, especially unorthodox communication and interactive education. If you do so, you will scare away all the other Internet users.
Sincerely,
Internet Management

Everyone has their own style, but in the end, it's all Jiu-jitsu.  The online promotion thing is ridiculous though!

SidRon -  If Eddie's system is not different enough from BJJ to be considered BJJ without a gi could one argue that BJJ is not different enough from Judo to be considered different?

Dude, I 've already explained twice. Judo is different than BJJ because the rules are different. There are Judo guys who have awesome ground work but have never been taught by a BJJ guy and vice versa. Their style is designed by the rules they train by, not the moves they choose.

If I do a throw in a BJJ match, it is a throw, not a Judo move. It may be influenced by Judo, just like Eddie Bravo's jiu jit is influenced by catch, but the move I am doing doesn't change it's denomination just because it's used by other people.

You can't copyright moves. I have just as much right to use the rubberguard as a 10th planet guy has to use a rear naked choke. I am not doing 10th planet jiu jitsu moves if I use the lockdown, and if Eddie's student goes through an entire tournament without using rubber guard once it doesn't make him less of a Bravo student.

Your guidelines for jiu jitsu derivatives doesn't make sense.

"What's up Kying! It's Doug from Gainesville. If Eddie's system is not different enough from BJJ to be considered BJJ without a gi could one argue that BJJ is not different enough from Judo to be considered different?"

Hi Doug! I agree, Judo, in its purest form would have the groundwork of bjj. Unfortunately, with the rules of judo and its limited time on the ground, great judokas do not have to focus too much attention on perfecting their ground skills.

10th planet jiu jitsu, on the other hand, imo, still use all the same "rules", positions, and fundamentals that are already in place with bjj.

Dude, you know you wouldn't say that to Canadian West Coaster & Purple Belt Ari Bolden's face.

If you think I'm wrong, why don't you fly out to "school" him with your superior "east coast" jiujitsu...?

Yeah, didn't think so.

Eddie (or Louis Ho, since your replying),

You guys say that you'll promote "only" up to Purple, but isnt Ari Bolden a Purple Shirt? Not for nothin, but if thats the standard you guys are setting for purple belts then I'm not totally sure that the program is much that you guys should be advertising.
