MMA as a HS & Collegiate Sport?

The United Mixed Martial Arts Organization is pleased to present the Athletic Program of Mixed Martial Arts for schools, colleges, and universities.

The United Mixed Martial Arts Organization (UMMAO) is a non-profit 501c3 that was founded in 2011, as the sanctioning and regulatory body of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Athletic Programs in schools, colleges, and universities. The UMMAO is also providing the proper training and competition equipment, through Millennium Martial Arts Supply, as well as the necessary curriculum and certification courses for instructors. By doing so, the UMMAO will help to ensure that the Program is performed in the safest and most encouraging way possible.

Mixed Martial Arts embodies discipline, respect, and honor. With these values at the heart of this elite sport, it is no surprise that it has become the fastest growing and most popular sport throughout the world. The UMMAO's Programs were built around teaching these core values and building character, in a safe and encouraging environment. By offering students a new avenue of personal development, physical training, and competition, the UMMAO is also able to provide schools, colleges, and universities with new ways to generate revenue, improve school morale, and raise the academic standard for student athletes.

The UMMAO's inaugural season of competition will begin in the Spring Semester of 2013, with a registration cutoff date of December 31, 2012. High School participants will compete in submission grappling tournaments while collegiate participants will compete in Amateur Mixed Martial Arts bouts under our modified rules and regulations. The UMMAO's Programs serve as a developmental program for Team USA MMA, which will be our Olympic Team for the sport of Mixed Martial Arts.

All potential Head Coaches must complete our certification courses to become a registered MMA Instructor. Student athletes must acknowledge that they will be held to a higher academic and disciplinary standard. The host schools, colleges, and universities, must designate an appropriate time and location to host practices and competitions. With the participant's adherence to our criteria, the UMMAO will donate 50% of its proceeds to help fund other Arts and Athletic Programs at the host school, college, or university.

We also offer many different variations of our Program ranging from basic self-defense seminars and MMA Clubs, to fully sponsored MMA Athletic Programs. If you or your school is interested in obtaining more information on our different options and the required criteria, please contact us via email; Contact@UMMAO.info

We can too! The NFHS & NCAA are excited to see it happen as well.

This will never fly schools that teach fighting? Competing in MMA with goal of knocking out or submitting opponent? MMA is the greatest sport on the planet but keep this seperate from school. Phone Post

It's already in schools.

Personally I would love it, but we're losing college wrestling programs left and right, esp. in Cali. And they're also cutting classes in Cali high schools due to the huge budget deficit.

Can you be more specific on how it's going to work? Are you actually thinking about HS teams, or just HS kids competing individually at tournaments.

What schools are already doing it?

No way it happens under the NCAA. I could see schools offering on a club level though. There are colleges that have boxing clubs.

It's horrible that we are losing prestigious collegiate programs and hopefully our Programs can help turn that around since 50% of our proceeds go back into each host school to help fund other arts & athletics programs.

With our Programs, it will based in a similar format as that of a wrestling meet with the winning team determined by points.

There are a few high schools that have it as a "Club" and some colleges already hold practices with their participants competing in local shows.

We've been working within the guidelines of the NCAA and have been in contact with them throughout the entire process. They are looking forward to what this organization can do, not only for the sport, but for the schools and their communities as well.

 Thank You!

Was only a matter of time, knew it would get into schools eventually, would love for my school to pick up on this. Phone Post

What school is it? We will be sure to put them at the top of our contact list.

ttt for collegiate programs Phone Post

Never happens at the high school level.

You really think it'll fly without headgear or that parents will go cheer on 14 year olds trying to kayo other 14 year olds?

It'll get spun as child slave fights in a second.

Plus, the first time a high school kid with skills who fights MMA for his school is arrested after beating ass at the local Taco Bell it'll brand all such athletes as awful.

Great notion but this sport isn't fucking mainstream yet.

Good luck trying to get a spot at the table alongside high school football. Phone Post
