Anyone just enjoys fights anymore ;)
And whats with all the ring card girl threads? When did fans get that hard up for ass? I like hot girls too....I just bone them in real life.
And who is Page?
(getting closer to 10,000)
The percentage of fans that fight, or even train, is much smaller than it used to be. It's fine I guess, but the "stories" have become more important than the skills displayed in the fights. Hard to really appreciate what they do when you've never tried it yourself, but everyone has some bullshit drama in their life, so they can relate to that.
Just a theory.
welcome to the machida era
I'm living proof that the Karate nerds of the 80's have become MMA fans :)

Whoa. That's pretty interesting, never thought of it like that.
I'm mixed on this one, you know? I remember going to fights where everyone in the crowd either trained or was at least a very close friend/family member of a fighter, the crowds were very knowledgeable and respectful. But I also remember going months at a time without seeing any fights, driving 3 hours one way to find a decent place to train, and PAYING promoters to let me fight.
Gotta take the bad with the good, I suppose.

THIS
I swear there needs to be a VirginGround where anyone who posts about ring girls needs to be banned to. I don't even bother making technique related threads anymore (with gifs etc) because they're just a waste of my time. 95% of the posters who actually care about the art of fighting are gone or rarely stop by. Also there needs to be a KnittingCircleGround for everything related to tweets and/or Chael Sonnen. Who gives a fuck what X fighter said about Y fighter unless it's 1. Wallid or 2. someone who doesn't always run his mouth anyway
When did Dan the Wolfman become cool here?

I think every post from now til 10,000 needs it's own thread.
jdb2414 - The percentage of fans that fight, or even train, is much smaller than it used to be.Good. A nation of guys who think they can do what they see on TV is so uneeded I don't know what to say.
If everybody who played Football in highschool pretended they would do well in the pros noone would be able to go to a live game ever again. It would be that annoying.
It's about time the fans stay fans instead of badasses waiting for their UFC shot.

I've been saying this for awhile. The 80s people who wanted to be ninjas now want to be MMA fighters. The good news is that these kids actually have a path to doing what they want to do and there will likely be quite a few that stick with it, thus improving the level of MMA in the future.

For sure. Lots of good with the bad. I'm just a salty old bastard that likes to complain.
More MMA fans = more fights for us and better pay for fighters. Get over your elitists sentiments folks, this is good for the sport.
(I know "stupid 11'er" blah blah...)

Agree to an extent, but I still think that's why we have more fans that are less knowledgeable about the fights/strategies/techniques and more interested in the pro-wrestling drama.

jdb2414 -True, I just think that we have to look at other sports to see how knowledgable we expect fans to be. Even people who watch other sports religously are generally pretty dumb in their viewpoints about it. We will probably never be bigger than Football and most Football fans are pretty dumb, with a few exceptions. I hate the fact that we do seem to have more annoying noobs than almost every other sport, but it makes it that much of a pleasure when I encounter people that really dig the sport. I think it might become extremely tedious if we had a nation of super-smart MMA fans too. It's bad enough that I have to hear 'why didn't you go for the armbar' from some fool whenever I'm at a sports bar.
