MMA Fastest Growing Sport?

I just heard the DJ's on the radio say the "Ultimate Fighting is now the fastest growing sport in America."

That was how they put it - obviously they were pretty clueless about the sport.

I wonder do they mean MMA in general? Or, are they referring to the UFC specifically? Or, are they actually referring to the Spike show The Ultimate Fighter.

Anyone heard any new statistics on the popularity of the sport, or increase in events across the nation?

Most of the general public doesn't know what MMA is, so lots of people use the term "ultimate fighting" so that the public knows what is being referred to.

That's why I'm wondering what they were actually referring to.

I wonder do they REALLY mean MMA is growing, events, popularity, no. of fighters, etc.

Or do they mean that the UFC and The Ultimate Fighter are growing rapidly in popularity?

Just curious. Anyone out there got any statistics concerning MMA popularity in general?
