MMA Roid Observation

I am not pro or con steroid use, but I do think this is as much as a positive as a negative (sherk franca). A company named Taser was torn to shreds because a few people died when being Tasered. What they failed to tell people was that 99% of the people that died would have been likely killed by a bullet if the officer felt necessary to use that force, so instead of X number of dying they could have countered with how many people were tasered and lived. That would have been the spin to put on the deal.

That's exactly where MMA is. If it takes the honest route to say that the sport is so physically demanding that it is very likely that steroid use and other "cheats" may be employed to win the prestigious reward of World Champion. It is likely this is the same driving force that has Major League baseball players and NFL stars also using Steroids. Instead of denying the issue exist like many professional sports organizations do, instead we work with our Athletic commissions and demand a high level of testing. We test 100% of the people that go for our World Title (not many if any other sports organization can say this) and in our fight cards we have almost 50% of the fighters tested for illegal substances. Punishments are swift and no big name law firms are involved to dispute it. If you want a UFC or WEC Title you better train clean and show up prepared for the Ultimate Battle. Dana should be proud he caught two people cheating and he can now get on to the business of appointing the correct LW World Champion.

MMA does more testing and screening then most professional sports, they are more swift and firm on the punishment and unlike taking $300,000 from an athlete that makes $15 million is not like what Sherk just gave up for a year. He will have to more then likely get a regular job while he waits out his suspension, and he is surely hindered his chances with sponsors. Michael Vick who is charged with a Federal crime will still make his $20 million a year, congressman that break the law still get paid while in Federal Prison but a MMA fighter that took the wrong path is virtually unemployed and starting over at the bottom again.

MMA is more strict and stringent then any other main stream sport or even Washington DC.

Don't hide owners of good organizations, stand up and say fuck you, we do more to protect our athletes then you, and when they are caught they go down hard, MMA is the standard not the problem.

ttt

Please let Vick have an aneurysm or something. I can't stand that guy.

good post, bravo to the ufc for having tough standards.

Since you brought up Vick....it appears Vick fucked up.....and should get what he gets. But as old as dog fighting is- with it's long Southern history- I find it ironic that they have made him the 'face' of it.
