can you guys tell where they are ,i know about AKA but its alittle to far im in san mateo i was thinking some where between redwood city and san francsco...thanks in advance ............JAIME

i would say research your options and think about the fact that driving and exttra 20, 30, even 60 minutes might totally change your fighting destiny :o)

couple off the top:

Cesar Gracie
Fairtex
Monster Island
AKA

There are people all over the world who would give a testicle to train with some of the pro teams cali has to offer and you are less than an hour away from several.

as a father of 3 you are probably busy. train at teh local spot for a few days and put in 1-2 days /week at a great pro place.

I know there used to be a place called woodys in san carlos that had BJJ and muy thai.

who teaches at fairtex i know about monster island..they dont teach mma right there basicaly sport bjj or im i wrong the reason im looking for something as close as possible has to do with my job and family obligation im not exactly a young buck anymore i try to spend as much time with my kids as possible anyways thanks fletch

awesome. monster is doug evans, i think they are mma, as they even have a cage. fairtex (clementia location) is jake shields 11 AM in SF, evenings in daily city. good luck

I trained for a short while at Peninsula Muay Thai in San
Carlos. While I have some friends who continue to train
there, I didn't feel satisfied there. They also had BJJ at that
time, which was taught by a Machado brown belt, I believe. I
didn't care for the BJJ classes much either.

If you are close to 280, you might try checking out Fairtex in
Daly City. I'm not sure what is happening at Fairtex these
days; they are going through some changes since Alex Gong
passed away. The last I heard Bunkerd Fairtex was still
teaching in Daly City, and since Fletch says the BJJ program
is still going on that might be a good choice.

Monster Island in SF is pretty easy to get to. It is on 3rd St.,
around 21st, kind of south of SBC Park. If you were coming
from San Mateo on 101 it would probably only take you 20
minutes to get there and you probably wouldn't hit much
traffic if you took the Hunter's Point/3rd St exit off of 101.

Other than that, does anybody know the status of Gladiators
gym in Redwood City? I think it is still in existence, as I saw
an article about a local boxer in the paper recently, and the
article said she trains at Gladiators. They used to have a
good MMA program there.
