The guy had plenty of chances to disengaged and run for it before he got (from the looks of it) his throat slit
I've watched an old neighbor get stabbed to death in a fight.
He was kicking the dudes ass when all of a sudden the guy pulls out a lockback knife and stabbed him one time in the chest.
He started to walk back into his house saying "I can get a knife too..." and then a minute later he was on the ground...a couple of hours later he was on a ventilator and brain dead.
3 days later he was dead.

The MMAer might have been stabbed a few times while he mounted the knife guy. The MMAer looked like he was wobbling a bit before he started running away.
Its not just mma guys. There are kali guys who get stabbed. Israeli soldiers trained in krav have died from knife attacks.
Bottom line is that knives are absolutely lethal. Even if you have a gun!
The dog brothers "die less often" dvds are mandatory viewing to dispel the many myths around surviving a knife attack.
Another thing. Most people who get stabbed... Never see the knife coming. They think they got punched. Which is the typical self defense stuff they teach in so called RBSD is rubbish... Its only in the movies that a knife guy shows you the knife first then lunges in with his lead hand.

In REAL life, you may or may not see the knives.
The guy who got stabbed got the balls, which ironically caused his own demise.
