Apparently the teacher was playing rap songs for the and telling them that’s how you could get ahead in life (dealing drugs, prostitution etc).

A Queens mom was outraged recently when she realized her son’s Zoom economics at a Brooklyn high school featured rap videos of drug deals, prostitutes, and off-color language.

The woman, who works at home, became so upset during the lesson about “money, power, and respect,” she took her son’s laptop and shouted at Deyate Hagood, a social studies teacher with A-TECH High School in Williamsburg, for wasting valuable time, the New York Post <a href=“https://nypost.com/2021/03/06/nyc-mom-enraged-teacher-played-rap-videos-during-zoom-economics- target=” _blank"="">reportedSaturday.

“You honestly ought to be motherf–king embarrassed. Disgusting!” she yelled at Hagood.

According to video footage reportedly filmed by the woman’s son, Hagood appeared to tell her, “It does teach them what people needed to do in order to attain something.”

However, the young man’s mother disagreed with those claims.

“You need to sell drugs and you need to be a prostitute to make money? You’re at school. You should be teaching how you get an education to get a job. Get an education to get a job. That should be the message,” she said.

“Your own students are saying, ‘what did the video show? Sell drugs to make money,’” the woman continued.

Their exchange highlighted what the mother called “lazy” remote instruction at a low-performing New York City high school, and how teenagers are glued to screens but learning little during the coronavirus pandemic, the Post article read.

“I’ve had to watch my high-school senior spend an entire year at home in isolation while receiving a very limited education,” said the mother, who asked to remain anonymous to protect her son.

During the on February 24, Hagood reportedly used two hip-hop videos, “C.R.E.A.M” and “Money, Power, Respect.”

DOE spokeswoman Katie O’Hanlon did not explain the purpose of the lesson or videos but claimed the school had received no complaints although the mother complained directly to Hagood.

“This is a albeit virtual, and you should be teaching something valuable. These kids are supposed to be preparing for college, and this isn’t helpful to them,” the teen’s mom concluded.

totally useless without more context. why should we trust the person who is yelling that she accurate represented what the teacher was saying and understood the message he was trying to convey?

if anything, yelling at a teacher mid zoom is some juvenile shit and increases the likelihood that is just an idiot who got it twisted.

My US History teacher 18 years ago played the song CREAM at the beginning of the year in because almost all actions in history revolve around the dollar. We would repeat it throughout the year while covering various topics. Cash Rules Everything Around Me!

LMAO awesome, I totally forgot about that shit until this article.

Mom needs to learn!!!!!!

There are definitely better educational materials to build a lesson around than 90s commercialized gangster rap. It's so lame when teachers try to do that to "relate to the youth on their terms". Unfortunately anyone who listened to that shit is already in their 30s. If you're gonna do it, pick a song by Blueface or Ski Mask The Slump God.

this pandemic woke up a lot of parents to just how shitty public school teachers have become.

She kind of blew it by yelling profanities at the “teacher”, but she’s right.

Biden got what percentage of the female vote? 55-60%

Biden got what percentage of the NY female vote? A state he carried by over 3 million vote? I can only imagine? Safe to say, she voted for this shit.

“Biden is leading among female registered voters by 59% to 35%, a 25-point margin when the numbers aren’t rounded.”

it was confirmed/not denied by the Dept of Ed that the teacher did actually play those 2 rap videos in class

and people are waking up to the fact tha tNYC public schools are actual poison for kids and since DeBlah instituted his “progressivism/socialism” in education, NYC education is shittier than its ever been

i cannot fathom how any sane person would want to raise children in NYC, assuming they dont get into a private or elite program.

who actually wants their kids in NYC public schools this day in age?

I feel bad for people with no options that have to send their kids to that god forsaken school system

so what?

are we at the point in our outrage curve that playing a wu tang video and discussing it with teenagers is something parents should be screaming about?

we are going to cancel a teacher over that?

yes, we are way past the point of playing mid 90s hip hop to try to “convery a message” in the ultra shitty NYC public school system

if you had any awareness or familiarity with NYC public schools, you’d get it

but it is apparent you are not from here , so you dont “get it”

I think more offensive than playing the videos was the teacher’s response to the mother where he stated that the types of things in the videos were what people need to do to get ahead. A teacher is supposed to be telling kids that taking their education seriously and being motivated to do legal things the right way is the best way to get and stay ahead, and anything a teacher says that is in conflict with that idea really is confusing and destructive to kids, not just young kids, but older ones as well. Its one thing to play the videos for entertainment, but if the teacher doesn’t get and push that crime is a terrible way to get what you need in life, that’s truly problematic.

^ this school is at the very bottom of ranking in the already piece of shit NYC public school system

so this is obv an ongoing problem with the school and teacchers

it would b e1 thing if the school was decent …but this school sucks ass and parents (who actually care) are frustrated at playing fucking 1990s wu tang videos to teach simple concepts

again, if you dont live in this area,m you wont get how shitty the education system is here

but you just want to be “open minded” and “cool” about playing WU TANG! in the classroom

Would it be ok if teachers somewhere else occasionally played some Wu tang, or would we need to cancel those teachers as well?

Are we pretending now that there is a correct, productive way to engage a mom who starts yelling at a teacher out of nowhere?

dabigchet

seriously read this link about this particular school

let go of your default stance taking and look at the context (which you mentioned)

here is more context about the school

click the dropdown menus and see its numbers are much lower than the Avg numbers for NYC city wide school nubmers

let go of your political shit and jus tlook at the facts for the context
