Vargas-Mosley II is on!
By Lisa Scott
On July 15th, Fernando 'El Feroz' Vargas (26-3; 22 KO's) will have an opportunity to avenge his TKO loss to 'Sugar' Shane Mosley (42-4; 36 KO's). Fightnews spoke to Shelly Finkel who confirmed, "The rematch between Fernando and Shane is a definite." Last month the two squared off in an extremely exciting and competitive matchup for a WBA junior middleweight title eliminator. In the 10th round, referee Joe Cortez stopped the bout (amid angered protests by Vargas) because of excessive swelling that completely shut Vargas' left eye. At the time of the stoppage, two judges had Mosley ahead (86-85) and one judge scored it for Vargas (86-85). Their rematch looks to be headed to Los Angeles. In other news, Finkel also confirmed that ring dynamo Rocky Juarez (25-1; 18 KO's) will challenge WBC super featherweight champ Marco Antonio Barerra for his title (61-4; 42 KO's) on May 20th, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. In 2004, Juarez won a 12 round unanimous decision against Zahir Raheem... the man who scored a complete shut out last September over Mexican gladiator, Erik Morales.
