its not that bad. if he wanted to knock the students out, he'd do it rather quickly. he is holding back.
Im guessing that the guys bitching have never been invloved in a sport beyond a high-school level.
If your training seriously in ANY contact sport you get take that same kind of punishment.
Besides its fucking Muay Thai, not Tai Chi.
my instructor just beat the shit out of me last thursday... it's even harder when they talk shit in dutch and you can't even understand what the hell they are saying!!!
at the place i train, there is a general rule that applies... you go as hard as the other person... sometimes it's kicked back... others it is full bore
If you can't take that with pads on, then how do expect to compete??

Easily the most perceptive and funny statement I've read in the UG in a long time. So true!
I took a lesson with John and he is a super cool guy. I couldnt view the
video but I can assure you he is a great coach. I learned a lot from my
lesson and I am hopin to some day get back to Indiana for another one.

Had to watch this at work with the sound off - all I could hear in my head was "do you wanna be a f###ing fighter ?!?!?"....

"A traditional Thai coach from Thailand is a ball buster."
B.S. I have worked with 8 different coaches in Thailand and that is not the case with any of them. Go and find a gym that is not just for farang and then tell me that. And LOL at the whole notion of "testing for your shorts".
"I'm surprised this video is causing such a stir... it may look harsh, but the dude has on big shin pads and "thing" gloves for his hands... I didn't see anything cruel about it at all... go to any inner city boxing gym and you'd be dying to get back in the ring with that teacher..."
No kidding. I suppose if that was what a class looked like it would be one thing, but as somebody said it is a gauntlet to be run in that guy's program, and he's smacking them with pretty big surface area, and not a lot of snap.
If you compete, you're gonna get hit. No time like the present to get a feel for it.
I can understand if it is part of the training..
I just thought it looked funny because everyone was getting wailed on..
and didn't seem like much training going on.. normally when you go to a
school site.. they usually have the obligatory student kicking the bag.. or
some chick doing tae bo.. this was the opposite of any of the school
introductory videos I have seen..
