Not announced on the CBJJ site yet, but i understand because the Pan American games (the real ones, not the CBJJ ones) are being held in Rio this July, the Mundials will be in the US.
Not sure what the CBJJO are going to do.

im confused, so the adcc is in new jersey, the pan ams, will be in rio (probably at the tijuca tennis clube), and the mundials will be held in the usa (where and when is indecided)
if this is the case, what will be the qualifying criteria? wont it just be the same people, eg. qualifying brazilians and international entrants at the pan ams (in rio in july, like the previous mundials), and americans with international entrants at the mundials (in the usa at whatever time it will be staged, like previous years).
so basically, they r just swapping names around. confused?? i am
WalBJJ - The names aren't getting swapped around, it goes a bit like this.
BJJ - Mundials (normally held in Rio)
BJJ - Pan Ams (normally held in the US)
Pan American Games (Like the Olympics but only for countries in the Americas, held in different cities each time. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_American_Games)
Because the Pan Americans are being held in Rio, the CBJJ will probably move the Mundials to the US as all of Rio will be taken up with the Pan Americans. I would imagine the Mundials will run exactly as before in terms of qualifiers, it's simply a change of location.
Yes, the cbjj pan ams are in LA, the cbjj mundials will apparently be in the US (location to be confirmed).
The actual pan american games are being held in rio.
Do you think this will hurt the level of Brazilian talent in the Divisions? The Mundials is where you see the new up and comers to the sport break out...will they be able to afford to come to the US?
Just a thought..other than that I would be stoked if the worlds came to US.
Mit, you could be right about the up and comers, especially in the purple and brown belt classes as they're less likely to have any sponsors.
The level of the mundials would significantly drop if moved here.
Matt I was kinda thinking that too when I typed about the up and coming brazilian talent.
The Brazilian Black belts will all still be here(as long as there isn't visa/passport problems). We might also get to see more of the N American talent who might not make the trip compete.
It would be nice to see guys like Dave and Dan Camarillo compete....Rhadi Ferguson...the list could be really long.
I guess we have to wait and see.
Hey shouldn't u be training right now instead of posting on here... LOL.. MIT...
Where are these rumors coming from?
there is nothing good about this. this will destroy the level of talent and make being a world champion feel illegitimate. if this is true, i will be so upset.
vdog you totally busted me there. I will be out wed night.
Mundials should be held in Sao Paulo, easy fix.
If they are still held in Brazil = Less money in Carlinhos pocket, but higher quality competition.
If in the US = WAYY more money in Carlinhos pocket, but less talent.
Lets see what he does.
ok, i got u know, the pan american games being the whole deal with the basketball and the team sports.
im not so sure about the mundials moving to the usa as a lot of the brazilians might have problems with affording travel and such. not a wise decision
Maybe it will just do good and make it a more international event...
I pretty confused. So there are two Pan Ams? Has there always been two Pan Ams?
Well there has only ever been one Pan American games, the one that happens every four years and is like a scaled down Olympics.
The other one you are thinking of is the Californian Championships of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.
I think it would be great if they brought the Mundials to the USA. Then every person with a hundred bucks and a spare day will have a chance to win a world championship to go along with their NAGA world championship.

Kid Peligro Jiu-Jitsu News . . . LAST MINUTE BOMB ! ! ! 2007 BJJ WORLDS TO BE HELD IN L.A. AREA!

A last minute BOMB of epic proportions has just been confirmed: The 2007 Worlds will be held in Los Angeles area in late July. The event traditionally held in Rio de Janeiro, will, for the first time leave Brazil and take place in the U.S.A.
The Worlds will take place on July 25 throught he 28th at the Long Beach Pyramid! More details as they become available but this is a huge opportunity for everyone, especially the American competitors to make a huge showing and secure a World title in their own backyard!
Additionally the U.S.A. is very central to Europe and Asia so expect a huge presence fromt op figthers from these regions!
As happy as I am that I will be able to compete against the best black belts in the world here in the U.S., it is different for the other belts. All the top level black belts will be there so nothing will change the level in the black belt division. But the other belt levels is a different story. I've seen guys who dominated the pan-ams and 3 months later get beaten in the first or second round at Mundials. The level of competition will definitely drop in the lower belts if this happens.
