musicians who train BJJ

I am interested in possibly having a live artist or group perform for my intro for an upcoming big fight. Anyone know of any famous musician who train BJJ and where they train?

Thanks,
Nick

TOOL frontman I can't remember his name I think it's nothing like TACO though

Tool frontman (Maynard, I believe) is correct as well as lead singer for Sevendust

There's a couple of local bands that train over at the Cove in st louis park

Ricky Rockett from Poison trains just got a BJJ black belt.

(It's pronounced Hicky Hockett)

Johnny Strong and his band Operator.  He is very tough and is very active in BJJ and MMA.  And the band rules!

oh ya and Eddie Bravo, he's a musical genius.

Freddy Mercury not only trained, but actually competed in the UFC shortly before his passing.

I like the idea Nick. It'll be like "theme music" from 'I'm Gonna Git You, Sucka'

^ So did his twin brothers, Dan and Don.

Nick,

I am honored that you think so highly of the Sasquatch Open, but really that's not necessary. Also, it's a just a grappling match, not a "fight".

;)

Sevendust sucks!

A famous band isn't really Nick's style... a cheesy cover band dressed in Karate Kid Uniforms? That's more like it!

I actually met Maynard from Tool last year at BJJ practice while he was here in Tokyo. I was just in there rolling and saw these two American dudes there. One kinda little bald dude and a bigger dude called Tod who was a purple belt. Them being fellow foreigners I introduced myself and got chatting with them. The little dude was sitting out during rolling because of an injury, but I had a roll with the other guy who was a solid grappler. We hungout and chatted for about 20 mins after training. Then as we were getting changed the bigger guy Tod says...

Tod: "You got any plans for tomorrow?"

Me: "Nah, why?"

Tod: "You ever heard of a band called Tool?"

Me: "Yeah"

Tod: "Well that guy you were just chatting with is the lead singer and I'm his head of security. We have a show tomorrow night so if you want I can give you a couple of free tickets and you can come backstage n stuff. You keen?"

Me: 0_0 ..... "Fuck yeah I'm keen! I'll be there!"

Stupid me! I'd been hanging out with Maynard and not even realised it. I ended up going to the show with another wrestler from my team. The show was awsome! They had the music vids on a giant screen that was behind them playing during the songs. I went backstage after the show and chatted with them for a while. They invited me to come out with them to go party, but had to turn it down cos I had training at 6:50am and was close to an important competition :(

All in all they were cool guys and it was interesting talking to them about groupies, rockstar stories and stuff like that. Also chatted about when Maynard threw and then choked that dude on stage.

Here's a photo I got at the end of training.

Every good hero has to have one!

And BigD, that's a sweet fucking story.  I like Tool and all, but Maynard is THE SHIT.

BIGD:

you turned down hanging out with tool to train because of competition. That is fucking dedication, I could not do that. Im sure you'll go far with that kind of will power.
