My son started running at that age. They had an elementary cross country team then. He is 12 now and still running. He isn't the fastest around though. There are 12 year olds out there running 13 minute 2 miles. I'm amazed. My kids best time so far was 14:30 in 2 miles. That placed him 11 th among 6th and 7th graders

Nice. Now think how crazy it was to hear them announce a 9 year old doing 3.1 ish miles in the 19's
On Saturday. He has never run longer than a mile and a 1/4 before. I was impressed he didn't stop once, not even with a few shitty hills
when they did the award stuff, the first place winner for 9 and 10 year olds was a fucking 9 year old that went sub 20. How in the hell?
Fastest kids in grade school were running right around 6 min miles, and none of us "trained". That is fast for a kid, but really not impossible.
6 minutes for 1 mile. That was the standard distance in elementary school. There were 2 brothers that were sub 6.
Considering most decent local 5ks are won with times in the 15's or low 16's, I'm gonna guess 9 year olds in the 19's is not as common as you're making it . Maybe I'm wrong but either way the little shit torched me

But his boy ran three in a row. I remember I ran a 8min mile in 6th grade, that was the 1st timed mile I ever ran. I was a bigger kid but I thought I was in pretty good shape. I think there was a couple of kids that played soccer a lot and they were around 6 maybe but that was just one mile. Your boys got some lungs, maybe he'll take to cross country or somethin later
After that he also had his first basketball game ever. He might have the worst basketball instincts I have ever seen in my life.
If you don't think athletes are role models, go watch a kids game. A 4th grade instructional league and I saw a kid dab after scoring, one did the usain bolt pose, and a fat black kid yelled"get that out of here!" After blocking a small kid
