My gi always smells like weed...

I don't smoke weed, I shower every day, I use deodorant, I wash my gi immediately after class and always wear a clean one, I've tried different washing powders/temperatures etc, yet by the end of class my gi always smells pretty heavily of weed.

Am I the one chosen to convert Eddie back to wearing a gi?

Anyone had this before? How did you get rid of it? 5 or so people in class have commented on it so far, not really sure whether they dislike it or not though, lol...

You sound like the chosen one my friend.

I've never had the weed smell, but when I'm supplementing more, my sweat has a ridiculous almost ammonia smell to it.  Even after I backed off the supplements, the smell was stuck in the gi's and even a little sweat would release the toxic fumes.  I bleached the white gi and just did a minor amount of bleach to the color gi's a few times and it knocked it out.

you can use white vingear to kill pretty much any smell on a gi. so you smell like weed, embrace the jiu jitsu lifestyle fren!

If it is always at the end of class maybe the people you are rolling with just smoke before class

Is your gi made from hemp?

If not, soak it for a few hours in a solution of vinegar&water, then wash as normal.

If your gi/sweat smells like ammonia, it's because you're not eating enough carbs before training. Ammonia is a byproduct of the body oxidizing protein into glycogen to use for energy, as in burning muscle.

huh, thanks.  That would make sense, because I'm usually supplementing and eating a lot less starch carbs at the same while doing it.

Cut your gi into grams and sell it to your friends.

could also be if there is a rubber/neoprene material on the inside of the collar. I have a neoprene knee sleeve that smells like that when it gets sweaty. The vinegar trick should work.

I'll give vinegar a try.

Anybody know about enzyme cleaners/laundry detergents and their effects on judo/bjj gis? They're amazing for getting dog piss and stank funk out of carpets and such like vinegar does(without the smell), but I'm not sure if they'd eat gi fibers the same way that bleach does.

My instructor told me my Gi smelled like weed one time, I don't smoke weed and do exactly as you describe.

I did hang dry it outside, I stopped doing that and the smell stopped.

op is your gi unbleached? i remember my very first gi smelling like that. I'm not sure what it is, maybe hemp, but most unbleached gis have that odor. try washing in vinegar

Not unbleached, it doesn't matter whether it's blue, or black, or white.

dont hide your stash in your gi bag...problem solved....

Stop using Rubber Guard.

Or smoke weed, that way it will justify the GI smelling like weed. Seems like insistent logic.

you guys are replying to this like its a bad thing..............

No I was merely suggesting he finds a new place to hide his stach....

mine does too. and my knee sleeves do as well.

i thought it was that way because i throw my gi in with my sleeves to the dryer
