Just to play devils advecate, I don’t know anything about her life.
Its safe to assume that BJJ has been the main focus in her life for a long time. Knowing that most of the people she trains with speak Portuguese: we can assume that they are also her friends outside the gym, maybe talking on the phone or hanging out in person, going to tournaments every weekend, traveling together, etc. she also lived in Brazil for many years.
I immigrated to the US when I was 6 years old. From Russia to Brooklyn. I can still speak Russian fluently but as I spoke less of it over the years the accent thickened. I only maintain the ability to speak it because I always took every chance to speak it as a lesson or practice.
Her Portuguese sounds pretty good and she lived there for a while. Is it hard to assume that she regressed with English and evolved more into Portuguese naturally and not by some coy to fit in with the cool kids?
I think this thing escalated pretty quickly without any solid proof of anything. Everyone who knows her speaks well of her, the Brazilian people love her. Why is she getting hate?
I agree 100%. It's natural for your accent change based on your surroundings. My aunt is from North Carolina but has lived in Florida most of her life. Her NC def adapted to Florida over time. Joe Rogan used to speak with a Boston accent. Like I said its natural. I honestly don't see what the big deal is.
She’s obviously not deliberately doing it. I’ve seen it happen to other people. But it’s not just her accent that has changed, it’s her English. She speaks with broken English now, accent aside. It’s peculiar.
I ran a Mexican restaurant for years and just from spending part of the day with foreign English speakers, I started speaking English like how a Spanish speaking person speaks English with pauses and forming sentences differently. I think I did it subconsciously so they could understand me, but then it stuck... but only for a short amount of time. Like if I had a few days off work it was gone.
One of my favorite BJJ guys of all time is Dustin Denes, some of his interviews online he sounds like an Iowa boy, sometimes he sounds like he’s straight out of Rio depending on where he was living during that time period.
I understand that she may have picked up an accent and grammatical cues, but I still don’t understand how she can’t understand English overall anymore.
Her father is Brazilian, spoke to her in Portuguese/English at home, and has spent a lot of time living and training in Brazil…where her half her family is from.

It is also worth mentioning that he too is an actual crazy person.
Defending her is the most disingenuous reading I've ever done. Everyone that says its natural for a native accent to evolve in a short time from immersion (its not) just conveniently ignores she has started speaking BROKEN ENGLISH with grammar and syntax issues. Jesus Christ stop making excuses for this insane shit.

Oooooh nevermind, her father is Brazilian, that explains why she is acting like SHE FORGOT ENGLISH AND NEEDS AND TRANSLATOR?
