My Son is Going Back to Wrestling

Quickest way to ruin a sport for a kid is to force them into it. If you want him to be active, tell him he needs to play a sport. But, let him pick.

He played football but its over. Has agreed to wrestling but that's only because he is in trouble at the moment for almost killing his hamsters.

You can't just put that out there, and not follow up. Hamster story?? Phone Post 3.0

Kids have to be pushed. If my Dad wasn't putting me in sports camps and driving me to practices/games then making those teams and enjoying the process would have never happened.

It's a good thing to require a kid to play a sport.

Arglebargle -

Sweet he just said he knows he needs to get back into something and does want to go back to wrestling.

VU for cool parenting

keithws2 - I've worked with kids for a long time. I've also coached for quite a while.

It's not a bad idea. Kids need direction and discipline.

If you make it part of the routine in daily life like school, he'll get on track.

I have two boys and they play sports close to year round. I also have them train BJJ/Kickboxing once or twice a week to supplement the other sports they play (baseball/ soccer).

The BJJ/kickboxing is not an option. They would rather play video games at times but tough shit. I know they will appreciate it down the road for numerous reasons.

Not like they can't play the video games to wind down from the sports. Plenty of PRO athletes managed their schedule with academics, athletics and video games/girls etc.

Him and his five year old sister have two hamsters. He decided to give them a bath so he dumped his lego Tupperware thing on the floor in his room, filled it with cold soapy water, and put them in it. As they almost drowned I guess he realized he fucked up so he pulled them out and put them back in their cage. Then he came downstairs and told us they were sleeping. Obviously suspicious.

So so we went and looked at them and they were soaking wet pretty much comatose and shivering. So I pulled them out of the cage and put them on my belly under a towel and my wife heated up a shirt in the dryer so I replaced the towel with that.

After like 40 minutes one was good to go but the other stayed in the "nest." Another 20 minutes later that one started moving around and came out but wasn't nearly as hyper. We put that one back as well and it ended up dying about an hour later. So everyone in he house was crying (except for me because it's a goddamn hamster) and my son became the perpetrator of a negligent hamstercide.

Any sport or extra curricular.

my sons wrestle and do judo and trumpet.

why?  Because daddy does judo and wrestling and they like it.

its a rule though:  you HAVE to do something.  No fucking off.

My buddy switched his kid to karate.... kid HATED it and went back to wrestling

KWoody - It's similar to how I ended up boxing at 10. I ended up loving it. Phone Post 3.0

Make sure he knows about oil checking, the third hook and just doing "this".

Do it! Many of my friends hate their parents for not forcing them to stick to a sport (lol yeah I know)

I wouldn't disagree with that.

My boys (both 15 now) get Friday night, Saturday night and a couple of hours on sunday night depending on whether or not homework is a priority.

Summers, I'm more lenient with the video game hours.
