My taxi driver just got fined $450 by cops

Driving 105km/h in an 80 km/h construction zone.

Fines get doubled so it’s a $450 fine. Ouch!

He is pissed haha

Doubled why? Must be Australia somewhere

Don't laugh too hard. He hasn't added his fees onto the fare yet

Canada maybe. Our fines are doubled up here if you are speeding in a work zone.

Same in the States (at least here in NY)

Yeah. Same throughout most of the US.

so now the question is where is Benda from and why aren’t the fines doubled there?

I think it might apply to school zones too.

I’ve always thought the KM/H is a great way to justify ass fucking Canadians and whoever else with tickets. When i was there i realized that they get the same leniency we do down here…about 10-15 over at best before you get pulled over. Obvious difference is 10 over for you guys is what, 6mph for us? I could sneeze real hard and scratch my ear and be going 6mph over. Sounds like this guys just cooking going 25 over but really it’s just 15 mph… definitely speeding but nothing crazy.

Im trying to imagine how annoyed I’d be getting pulled over going like 5 mph over and having a Canadian cop justify it to me because its a bigger number when dealing with km’s.

Miles make no sense, kilometers are based off math. Most cops in Canada won’t stop you under 120km/h and if you drive from Montreal to Toronto you’d be hard pressed to find anyone except truckers going under 140km/h. We’re actually in discussion to raise the limits to 120 because they did some research and took average speed of the drivers and said fuck it, it needs to change. Already implemented in bc I believe.

I was with my friend who got a ticket going 91 in an 80 down a hill in Edmonton. Abnd the cop wouldn’t shut up about how he was going over 10 over the limit. Idc what you think about miles, i just thought it was interesting how that works and 10 over the limit there is seen just like 10 over the limit there. Just less leeway for you guys.

This was in Calgary

I got a ticket doing 76mph in a 70 once.

the number is arbitrary.  The limit is the limit.

Construction zones are 60 km/h in Calgary though...

In Illinois (at least in the Chicago area), they now have cameras enforcing the speed limit in some of the construction zones.

PA is the same. The area I’m in is super strict. You must turn on headlights as well when in a construction zone. A worker was killed a while back by some dumb bitch driving on the shoulder, so now they don’t fuck around.

5mph over will usually not get you pulled over. Anything over that all bets are off. 15 actually ups the charge from speeding to Reckless driving.

That's some bullshit right there.

Was on Stoney Trail. I’ve no idea but cop said there was a ton of signs. I was half asleep in the back after flying from Toronto so I wasn’t paying attention.

Haha I always drive the limit on Stoney, they have f150’s now with diamond plate tool boxes that you wouldn’t even know it was a cop if you hadn’t seen them pulling people over before. Deerfoot is another story though, you’re going too slow if you’re only going 20 km over the speed limit in the slow lane lol
