Mixed Martial Arts at its heart is a form of hand to hand combat that was developed to simulate what would happen in a realistic confrontation between two men.
I view MMA as an extension of combat in an even "purer" form: that of street fighting.
At virtually any time, two men could choose to battle each other with fisticuffs in order to settle a dispute, to see who is the better man, etc.
However, taking in to play the variables of life, more often than not fights are broken up within a relatively short time, either by police, bystanders, or other parties.
I have come to realize that I train, not for MMA, but to fight.
I have made a conscious effort to develop my skills to the point where they are applicable in all realms of fighting. A street fight, an mma fight, a toughman boxing match, anything.
With that, apparently, comes the bad aspects as well.
You see, I fight for the finish, and quickly.....If you watch my fights, I try to get it over with as quickly as possible. WHY?
Because in a "real life" situation, the cops or someone else would be there to break it up quickly....so I try to win before that time would come.
I maintain that if you watch a street fight and time it to the point where the cops intervene, then apply that same time frame to my fights, I would win virtually every time.
I also maintain that I am the most exciting 5 minutes in sports.
Now time to go bulk up to heavyweight.
I have a man crush on Tom Lawlor
exciting fight, i enjoyed it a lot. good luck on the comeback trail
Tom Lawlor, I will buy you a beer next week.
I have a man crush on Tom Lawlor
War Lawlor. Thought you had him in the 3 min mark. Keep plugging away and it will all click for you.
I was cheering for you. A less durable man than Doerkson would've folded. Now get to Birmingham, England and experience the delights of UK MMA!
I love you Pat Lawlor...great fight
Real men have moustache's, once again great entrance and a very entertaining fight.
ttt for severn
Congrats on the solid effort last night....come back better than ever and best of luck!
great fight and even better mustache.
Fuckin' great fight Lawlor.
The mustache and hair alone deserve to be recognized.
Good luck Tom.
TTT - keep at it sir.
Win, lose or draw you're an exciting fighter and a great entertainer and I'll pay to see you fight any day.
PS - the Severn get-up was the best ever. Cant wait to see whats next.....
Holy classy fighters batman!
Your fight at 113 was easily the most entertaining and you are a credit to the sport, and just plain fighting in general.
Kick some ass seabass, and mad props!
That was just a fun fight to watch and it brought up a discussion at my house about BLAF and his cuts. He should cut BORING fighters even if they win, and keep exciting fighters even if they lose. After all, doesn't it come down to money? Fighters or champions don't put people in the stands, EXCITING fighters and champions do.
This is a treatise that deserves to be held in the esteem of the most important treatises ever, like John Locke's Second Treatise on Civil Government. Who needs social contract theory when you can just punch someone in the face, anyhow?
I admit to being a member of the mancrush club as well. I am quite sure it's that manly haircut and moustache more than anything. I saw that, and I said "now there's a fucking MAN."
Great fight, look forward to seeing you again.
Also, I read that second paragraph again, and I'll just BEEP! myself.
