Congrats Nick Lenz on winning the 170 lb title. He beat Vern Jefferson in the finals of the touranment. Vern knocked out Shane Wessels in the first rd to get to the finals.
Aaron Prachek is an absolute animal. Won both of his fights convincingly by knockout. I think DeZee was supposed to be in this tournament but he got sick. I think he's got enough wins in EFX that he has to be considered for one of the first title shots unless a certain concrete mason from Red Wing decides that he's going to lace them up again :-)
Marcus Lyvester- Holy shit... I've seen two of his fights so far but haven't gotten to see any of his wrestling yet... The kid has some heavy hands and the two times i've seen him live, he's won by ko.
Alicia Menne hit the absolute sickest armspin (shoulder throw, whatever you want to call it) in her fight against Vern Jefferson's sister (name escapes me right now). The throw was so textbook... crowd went freaking nuts. I'd love to see Gamst bring in someone to test her... she could be really good.
Clark beat Butch Hijack (sp?)... good fight... both guys respected each other's strengths... Joey wasn't looking to trade hands with Butch and Butch sure as hell wanted to stay out of Joey's clinch. The fight eventually found its way to the ground and Joey made a super slick transition to Butch's back. Won by RNC rd. 1
It was really good to see Guthmiller back in the cage. He looked really calm and confident and won in the first round with relative ease. Reilly said a few times that night that Darryl is the best fighter he's even seen that hasn't had his shot at the big show. Pretty bold statement, but Guthmiller was an animal.
The Jimmy Gomez fight was interesting. His opponent's name escapes me right now (my bad). Dude took absolutely everything Jimmy had to throw and came back swinging. Around the middle of the second round, I saw Jimmy pointing to his hand trying to say something to Brock Larson who was the ref. He also switched then to a southpaw stance (i'm guessing he broke his hand). About half way thru, Jimmy dis-engaged from his opponent and just collapsed by the cage door. Not sure if it was from some kind of injury or just sheer exaustion. He stayed down for probably a good 10 minutes before being helped to the back.
Sorry i don't have more info. I had everythign written down then someone spilled their drink on it about two fights before the end. Great show with a packed house.
I assume that you are talking about Marcus Levesseur rather than Lyvester. He is a couple of time DIII National Champ at Augsburg who left the Gophers during his freshman year due to various issues. He has had some problems with eligibility but is probably the best athlete that has competed at the Myth.
