myths of people that think edgar won

i personally feel bj won because he outstruck edgar during the first 3 rounds..i remember after the 3rd round i was wondering how frankie intended to win the fight...

that being said, i know the fight was close...what surprises me, however, is some of the reasoning people are using for saying edgar won...in this thread, i will dispel the top 5 myths of those who argue that frankie won

1. frankie was more aggressive - not during the first 3 rounds. bj was the one that was pressing the action and coming forward for about 90% of those rounds. yes, frankie came forward and attacked with a few takedowns, but bj was the one stalking frankie for nearly the entire duration of the first 3 rounds

2. frankie won based on takedowns - if you are going to score those two "flash" takedowns where frankie took bj down but could not 1) do any damage 2) attempt any submissions 3) attempt any passes or 4) hold bj down, then you must also score the much more numerous attempts that bj DEFENDED and you must also score bj getting up so easily- grappling advantage bj

3. frankie won based on movement - movement is not a scoring criteria..if you want to grasp at straws and say that it amounted to octagon control, you would be wrong - bj had the octagon control during the first three rounds by pressing the action and CONTROLLING where frankie went, not vice versa

4. frankie won because bj's face was more damaged - again, not a scoring criteria

5. frankie landed more shots - not during the first three rounds (http://www.fightmetric.com/fights/Edgar-Penn.html)

If movement is that important then Starnes v Quarry was way closer than I thought before.

lol

BJ Penn isn't the lightweight champ anymore.

lol

Edgar did a good job of LOOKING like he won. Looked fresher, corner was screaming yeah anythime he connected with anything. He was the one holding his hands up at the end of the fight where as BJ didnt (very telling imo). I had it 3-2 for Frankie but it was so close, some of those rounds were VERY close. In the end I think Frankie got the nod bc he LOOKED fresher, and that is also not part of judging criteria. 50-45 is just fkn dumb.

lol.

bj lost.

i agree that there were a lot of elements of the fight that went in frankies favor, but many of them are simply not part of the scoring critera...edgar was much more lively, edgar came on stronger at the end, bjs face looked more busted up and bj almost had a look of dispair on his face...but none of that should have contributed to the decision...

also one element that is technically not part of the scoring criteria, but most people agree is and should be taken into account- in order to beat the champion, you have to do so decisively...what does that mean? if the challenger dominates and it goes to the decision the challenger should lose? no..it means for rounds that are close and could go either way, you give the nod to the champion...this is common practice...

I think Penn one but the third round had one strike bwtween them....... so not end thread im afraid

Frankie is the LW champ /end of thread.

Bj knew he lost before the decision was read, wish some others would accept it aswell as he did.

i refuse to accept it, that's like telling someone who says they saw a UFO hovering over their house they didn't see anything.  My brain knows what my eyes saw.

the only reason people think edgar won is cause they dont like bj, i just dont see how winning one round can win a fight but than again machida did it to

Well that was sometime after the fight... post BJ's face after the same amount of time had passed. He started wearing large sunglasses, so it must have been pretty bad.

Argument #4. Damage matters more than you think. it is EFFECTIVE Striking... so they take damage in considering what is effective and not.

the fight was close. You can be upset with the decision or think it went the wrong way, but to act like its some huge robbery or outrageous decision is being ridiculous.
